Do vegans drink fermented beverages?!

Question: Do vegans drink fermented beverages?
Basically alcoholic beverages. Also, Do vegans have any problem with fueling cars using ethanol? If you haven't seen what I am getting at here the yeast ferments the sugars in these products and dies in the end before the product is ready. Do vegans see a problem with this?

Answers:

Well, if you look up the definition of "vegan" you will realize that the cause/lifestyle pertains to animals, not micro-organisms.

Fermented foods are amazing. Not only do they help with the digestive tract, they boost the immune system and help fight off disease.

Personally, I am a fan of Kombucha and fermented cabbage (about to make my own actually).
Both of those foods take vegan ingredients to create/ferment, thus not using any animals or animal byproducts. This is what makes them vegan.
:)

"Vegan", like most categories, is not a perfect label. I doubt you would find many vegans who object to things like yogurt cultures though. Yeasts are fungus, not animals. There is a Buddhist sect in which the monks carry brooms to sweep insects from their path where they walk. I suspect that they realize it is impossible to live without killing other organisms, but rather wish to be aware of what they are doing and to minimize harm to other creatures.

We don't worry about yeast. Most spirits are vegan but there is a lot of beer and wine that isn't.
