What all can I expect (good and bad) from going vegan?!
I am quite overweight, and one of the reasons among many, is to of course, lose weight, and most of all, to improve my health. Thanks!

That is so great that you are going vegan! I am vegan and I think the most difficult part of veganism is the transition period and then dealing with the ignorance of people who do not understand veganism or information about basic nutrition. Many people suggest using meat and dairy substitutes during your first few months of veganism so you don't feel like you are having to give anything up. I used Daiya cheese and mock meats like seitan to help me when I missed those things. You will more than likely face criticism from friends and family so it is always nice to know the answers to questions that they will likely be asking you. I highly recommend listening to a podcast called Vegetarian Food for Thought by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau. You can find it on itunes or vegetarianfoodforthought.com If you are wanting to loose weight I think you should look into vegan diets that are specially make for weight loss because simply going vegan will not ensure weight loss; there are just as many vegan junk food items that aren't healthy as non-veg so watch out for those. Just remember just because it's vegan doesn't mean it's healthy so eat oils, fats, sugars, etc. in moderation =) I wish you all the best in going vegan!!!!
I became vegan about 2 months ago. I've been vegetarian on-off for 7 years.
To be honest, my primary reason was because I wanted to lose weight and other methods were not working. I lost 55 pounds (and I've kept it off) after becoming vegetarian. I know that if I cut out the cheese, dairy, ickky fattening stuff that I will lose weight! So I did.
The big things to overcome are the need for thoughtfulness. For me, even as a vegetarian, I was a lazy cook. I made a lot of pre-made stuff with lots of cheese. As a vegan, you need to cook more, and it is harder. You also have to be more aware of labels, etc.
I feel better about my choices & foods....like I am being thoughtful--and that is a big change for me. Thoughtlessness is what made me overweight and what made me eat animal products in the past. I feel really good about this decision.
:)
Good luck!
OK FIRST OFF, eating only veggies will NOT contribute to weight loss. You will earn all of the benefits of vegetables, but LOSE all benefits from eating meat, like protein.
You'll be healthier, you'll have more energy and you'll have healthier skin. You most likely will lose some weight.
better health lower cholesterol weight loss
i know lots of fat veggies, going veggie won't take weight off you
