Should I eat fish again?!

Question: Should I eat fish again?
I have been a vegetarian for about a year and a half and have been considering eating fish (or being a pescatarian for awhile now.. I stopped eating meat (all animals fish included) because I did some research on how the animals were treated and killed and it didnt sit right with me that I was a part of that so I stopped cold turkey. I cant even consider or want to consider eating chicken turkey pork or beef.. it just makes me sick thinking about eating flesh.. but I do miss eating fish. I go out often and fish is really the only option besides salad at a lot of places.. Also I miss having a healthy fulfilling entry like that. I guess I am a little misinformed about the treatment of fish or their ability to feel pain or anything like that but Ive always felt that the treatment of farm animals was a lot worse.

Any people out there that have turned to pescatarians after not eating meat?

I'm a VEGAN and I find many options when I eat out- salads, side dishes, tons of entrees that can be easily veganized. That's aside from the many places that have a completely vegetarian menu, including VEGGIE BURGERS.

It's one thing to sacrifice your morals for the sake of convenience, but it doesn't even sound like that's the issue- you just don't know how to eat-out as a vegetarian.

Hi,
i know exactly how you feel, i have been vegetarian for 6years now, i started eating fish about a year ago, i guess it's okay to eat fish, then rather have beef, chicken, goat, lamb , cause those animals understand fear, and feel being scared. unlike fish, ((((i don't know that's the way i see it ))))

(((((SKY WALKER)))))) you eat everything !! don't forget Bambi lol!

No. Cows are shot painfully in the head, pigs are skinned alive, chickens get submerged in 145 degree water and fish SUFFOCATE. For the sake of the fish who are no different than a pig or cow from vegitarian to vegitarian DONT DO IT! Think about the fish

A vegitarian for two years

If you do start eating fish, just make sure it is wild and not fish farmed. Similiar to buying free range eggs as opposed to cage :)

edit:

@Dilara Gingerich you can't even spell vegetarian and claim to be one. wow.

veg 5 yrs

It sounds like you need more variety... I am a vegetarian, and I don't eat a lot of salads, lol. If you're a vegetarian/vegan, if you don't have enough variety in your diet, and you have cravings, then it is harder to stay veg.

That is gonna be a personal choice. However, if the reason you dont eat meat is because of animal treatment, then if you look too far into seafood you arent going to like what you find. Good luck whatever your decision may be.

Look, if the reason you don't eat meat is because you feel sorry for animals (stupid reason, by the way) then eating fish (i.e. - pescetarian) just makes you a hypocrite and a phony.

I think you should go ahead and eat fish every now then. You clearly would like to and I dont see that it hurts anything. I know what you mean about it being the only option at a restaurant that family might drag you to.

No, more fish are killed each year than animals in slaughterhouses.

Fish is unhealthy.

I eat fish to,

If you miss eating fish then you are not very committed to helping animals, no offense. If you see no problem with eating fish-whom feel pain-then you are not helping any causes by being vegetarian. You need to be passionate about your cause or you will falter. You say you have a problem with flesh but a fish is an animal, just like humans. It's a personal choice and no one can force you of what to do either way but you should do what you know is right in your heart, not what you miss the flavor of. There are many fish-flavored substitutes out there that are available online if not in your local grocery store. Don't make this decision based off of food. Make it on what you believe is right and wrong.

Killing is still killing.

Fish breath similar to the way we do. Fish have faces. Fish are still living creatures. I can't seem to grasp why vegetarians still call themselves vegetarians if they eat fish. It doesn't matter if fish can't feel pain. In my book, it's still killing.

Before jumping to the conclusion that eating fish is the only possible way for you to get a "fulfilling entry", why not try changing the places where you eat? I'm a vegan, why would I try to eat at a steakhouse? Many places have a "secret" vegan menu, so as a vegetarian, you'll be golden. I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives around where you live, just give it a shot before you go to an extreme.

I'm so vegan, they call me Brussel Crow. =)

Fish are able to feel pain. In terms of quality of life, they have a better one than factory farmed chickens and pigs. However, as strange as it may sound, overfishing is a legitimate issue in today's time. Also, much of the fish caught in the ocean is discarded as "bycatch" because it isn't the species of fish the fishermen were searching for.

Also, never eat shrimp. It's harvested through a manner called ocean trawling, a process through which all marine ecosystems on the ocean floor are discarded. It's very wasteful.

If you do choose to eat fish, please use this tool to make sure that you are eating fish from a good source. http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/Se…

Good luck!

You do not need to eat fish.

You can buy vegetarian imitation fish at Asian Markets. Some vegetarian restaurants also sell imitation fish.

When eating out, Burgerking has a BK Veggie burger, Subway has a veggie patty sub(not to be confused with the Veggie Delite), Hard Rock Cafe has a veggie burger, Chinese restaurants sell sesame bean curd with rice, Papa John's and Little Caesar's sells vegetarian pizza.

Boca, Morningstar Farms, Lightlife, Amy's Kitchen, Annie's Homegrown, Quorn, Tofurky, Tofutti, and Worthington are brands of vegetarian products that can be found at whole food stores/health food stores and major supermarket chains like Pathmark, Stop & Shop, Shop Rite, and Foodtown.

It is up to you, if you want to eat fish.

However, every nutrient found in fish can be found in plant sources.

Plus, fish has mercury in it, and most fish people consume comes from fish that are held in captivity in fish farms and are crammed together with little room to move.
