Why vegans crave salt?!

Question: Why vegans crave salt?
I have been a vegan for a year and a half already. Lately, I started to crave salt. I try to watch it; but still why do I have such a crazy craving?...Is this some kind of deficiency?

Answers:

you MAY be missing salt in your diet. although, i have a book about why you got this disease or this disorder, this trait, this urge, etc. and it said for salt, when you feel like you need to add on alot of salt in your diet means you need to feel in control.

I don't think that vegans crave salt any more then other meat eaters. Each person if different, and evidently you were getting enough salt for you body needs while eating meats. I crave salt quite a bit, but my mom, who is completely vegan eats almost not additional salt.
Adding some unrefined sea salt in some form to your diet will help solve your cravings, as well as be healthy for you.
Also, another thing to consider, how much stress are you under? If you are under more stress lately then usual, then that could be a cause for the additional cravings, as the adrenals (which help handle your stress) may be becoming tired.

myself, my mother

just because you specifically crave salt, doesn't mean all vegans do.

you aren't every vegan and you can't possibly assume all vegans crave the same things. i for one, have been vegan for well over a decade and absolutely cannot stand salty foods. i've been raw for several months now and i rarely use salt at all.

Craving salt is usually a sign that you are dehydrated. Salt makes the body retain water, so your body will crave it when it needs more water. Try drinking an extra one or two glasses of water a day for a couple of days and see if that doesn't help.

It's your natural human lust for the flesh of beast. Go forth and kill once again my angel, strike fear into the heart of cows, strike blade to the oysters of the rocky mountains, and strike fork to the chickens of the sea. Be free once again.
