Vegans: What should I ask for in a resturant?!

Question: Vegans: What should I ask for in a resturant?
I'm going to end up having to go out and eat tomorrow, and I don't have much experience trying to find something vegan at restaurants. I'm going to guess that the place I'll go to will be a steak house, since I'm going with my boyfriend's carnivorous parents. What sorts of things (aside from salad) do you normally order? Do you request something?

Answers:

I would order salad and sides. :)

Depending on the place, I have them replace the meat in a teriyaki bowl with veggies,
or I order a burrito/taco with beans and guacamole.

~vegan who eats out...a lot~

Steakhouses usually have decent vegetarian options. You could order a veggie burger or, if they don't have one, order a burger with no meat and extra veggies instead. Salad, pasta with tomato sauce, baked potato, etc. You could also tell the waiter that you're vegetarian and see if they have a veg dish that's not listed on their menu. Lots of places do but just don't list them since they're not as popular. Good luck!

tell them you're vegan and they will usually be accommodating. Or better yet, say you are allergic to dairy because then they will go out of their way to make sure your dish is vegan since they don't want a lawsuit on their hands. haha. Also, if you order anything that is a soup or soup-like, double check to make sure they don't use meat-broth or fish stalk or any of that stuff.

vegan myself:)

guac salsa tortillachips mole yea thats it o nd salad
ask 4 no cheese on/in ur food
