My favorite is Portobello Mushrooms. mmmm. tasty, and healthy. This is because it has a great texture, and can be prepared to taste great.

Another two are Wheat Gluten (Seitan... Mock Duck) and Soy. (Tofu)

My least favorite option is Tofu... For one thing, too much soy lowers sperm count in men, at least according to a British research project. For another, fake meats made of Tofu (like fake hot dogs) taste horrible. Mock Duck is a great tasting, meat alternative, especially in Thai, and Chinese food.

"If a group of beings from another planet were to land on Earth -- beings who considered themselves as superior to you as you feel yourself to be to other animals -- would you concede them the rights over you that you assume over other animals?" George Bernard Shaw

The things meat eaters don't eat - fruit, vegetables and nuts which are alternatives to mainly not alternatives for. Beans particularly soya beans and its derivatives such as tofu, dairy, if you aren't vegan and eggs which are truly meat just like fish (unless you subscribe to the view of some people that declare otherwise ).

PALEO

Best imitation is a product called Quorn. Originally a UK-based brand it is now available in the US also. You can buy chick'n nuggets, chick'n patties, "meatballs" etc. that taste pretty much the same as the real meat-based food. They're sold at Whole Foods Market, not sure where else.

Three that most closely imitate meat:

Tempeh, made from fermented soybeans

Tofu, soybean curd

Seitan, made from wheat gluten.

Then we have "mock meats" that are specifically made to imitate certain types of meat, like Boca burgers or Gardein chick'n (best kind).
