Question: Any one else allergic to quorn?
im allergic to quorn it seems, im a vegetarian now, its been about a year, i dont eat much of the quorn stuff but i miss sausages the most, ive started to get bad indigestion and acid reflux with all quorn products i have tried so far, it never used to do anything before but its started to effect me, anyone else allergic?

Answers:

I don't know about allergic, but it sure upsets my stomach. I've been a vegetarian for 12 years, and I don't eat fake meat at all(I don't like real meat, why would I eat the fake stuff?). However, a few Thanksgivings ago, my aunt proudly bought me Quorn "chicken" fillet things to eat, and I politely ate one since she bought them special for me. Spent the rest of the night puking my guts out. I researched them after that, and it's not actually derived from mushrooms, as the label would lead you to believe. They are a fungus, grown in large "sheets" in a lab, then compacted together to form whatever "meat" their suppose to resemble, and flavored with questionable chemicals. I'm not sure if it was the fungus itself that made me sick, or the fact my body isn't used to those sorts of harsh chemical flavoring agents and preservatives (I eat what I would call a "primitive" diet, no processed foods, canned foods, boxed foods ect... Everything is from raw ingredients and made from scratch).

A lot of people have reactions to Quorn, your best bet is to not eat heavily processed junk foods, your body will thank you

That's not an allergy. That sounds like an intolerance to something in their products, but that type of reaction is usually to spices or occurs if you have another underlying condition.

There's a BIIIGGG difference between allergies and intolerances. Allergies involve histamine reactions and intolerances usually have to do with a problem in digestion.

I have heard of reactions to Quorn, but it's not an epidemic or a common problem.

I'm not allergic to them but you could be having a reaction to either the fungus or eggs. A lot of people don't realize that Quorn products aren't vegan. Ironically, I AM allergic to Enjoy Life chocolates which are specifically made for people with allergies & intolerances! haha

Can't really help you as I loathe the stuff. However, it is made from a mushroom related product so perhaps you could find out if you have a fungus allergy.

No, I've had Quorn products a few times and never experienced any adverse reactions.
