vegetarians, do you just avoid meat, or all animal products such as eggs, dairy, and butter?!
And what about fish? One of my classmates is vegetarian, and I saw her eating fish & chips.
And is vegetarian the same as vegan?

No, vegetarian isn't the same as vegan. Vegetarians avoid meat, and only meat. They can still eat eggs, milk, cheese, and other dairy products. Vegans don't eat anything from animals, and only eat plant-based foods. They avoid meat, dairy, eggs, ect. along with hidden animal ingredients. They ALWAYS have to check the ingredients list of foods and watch out for ingredients such as whey, lard, casein, rennet, gelatin, lactic acid, and many more. Most vegans also avoid products tested on animals and don't buy/wear leather or wool. Usually a vegetarian is a vegetarian for health/ethical reasons. Vegans are usually vegan for ethical reasons and to help improve the environment.
I'm vegetarian. But I'm on the verge of becoming vegan so I also don't DRINK milk itself. I drink soy milk. But I do eat some foods that have milk as an ingredient such as cheese. Same thing with eggs. I don't eat the eggs themselves, but sometimes they are a ingredient in a food.
No, vegetarians do NOT eat fish. The classmate you saw was most likely a pescitarian. Pescitarians avoid all meat except fish. But many tend to call themselves "vegetarians who eat fish", even though such a person doesn't exist. Many simply say that statement because most people don't know what a pescitarian is and using the name may confuse others.
A vegetarian eats products from animals, but not the carcases of dead animals. I.E. a vegetarian would like a glass of milk, but not a flank steak.
Pescatarians eat fish and other ocean creatures, but do not eat land animals. Basically a vegetarian that eats fish.
Vegans do not eat any animal products, be it lamb chops or yogurt. They also do not eat creatures of the sea.
personal experience
Vegetarians: Just don't eat meat - including fish, but do eat cheese, milk, eggs.
Pescatarians: Don't eat any other meat but fish. Eat cheese, milk, eggs.
Vegans: Don't eat meat, milk, cheese, eggs, or any processed food containing animal byproducts. Most also strive to use products like shampoos and soaps that are animal friendly and vegan. They avoid leather and wool more than anyone else would.
Vegan
A vegetarian is someone who does not buy or use animal flesh or slaughter byproducts.
This includes fish, gelatin, and ALL flesh.
So you can guess...that "vegetarian" classmate of yours?
Not a vegetarian.
A vegan is a vegetarian who does not buy or use animal products or fund animal usage at ALL.
This includes meat as mentioned above
eggs, dairy, and honey
wool, fur, leather, silk and items trimmed in them
consumer products from companies whose distributors conduct animal toxicity tests
and zoos, circuses, rodeos, aquariums, and other venues where animals are held in captivity or forced to perform for profit.
~vegan, 4 years~
personally i eat all dairy and eggs but i avoid meat and by-products of meat including gelatine and rennet in cheese. i only eat things that haven't hurt the animal to get, like milk, eggs etc. and i also try and get organic and free-range things but thats just cause i care about the animals haha i did that before i even became vegetarian.
Your thing of a vegenaise "vegen" , they are very dedicated of not eating anything that is not have any animal parts that is used. like eggs, milk, jello since is has cow bone in it. Vegetarians don't eat meat or eggs.
VEGETARIANS - Avoid all meat products
PESCATARIANS - Avoid all meat products with the exception of fish.
VEGANS - Avoid all animal products.
vegetarians just dont eat meat from an animal, but a vegan wont eat anything that comes from an animal even if the object in question isnt even a meat
Vegetarians don't eat fish, at all. Vegans don't either. To answer your question, I avoid all animal products.
ALL ANIMAL PRODUCTS
