Vegetarian without protein pills?!

Question: Vegetarian without protein pills?
I've recently became a vegetarian (not vegan) and I've came across the fact that I wont have the protein I need..
I cant get protein pills either.. (long story) XD

I'm 16 year old male, whats going to happen to me if I continue having a low scale amount of protein?

And what everyday foods should I look out for? Thanks alot?

Answers:

You don't need protien pills. Protein is in almost everything (veggies included) but fruit. Only 10-15% of your daily caloric intake should be protein. You don't have to worry about it. Plus you can eat cheese and milk since you're a vegetarian.

You should be worried about getting too MUCH protein. There's a link down there to make you feel better.

Amy is much nicer than I am. >=D Sorry, I just tell it like it is.

Who on earth gave you the idea that you wouldn't be getting the protein you need? And why won't this myth DIE?

Beans, nuts, legumes, and some grains will help you get protein, but I have read that you only need 0.3 to 0.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. And you don't need to "combine" your proteins either; as long as you eat a balanced diet, you should be fine.

But if you're really worried, Clif Bar makes a product called Builder's Bar that has 20 grams of protein. They're completely vegan, and you should be able to get them at your local vitamin store or health food store.

The link is from the Vegetarian Resource Group. It covers everything you need to know about it. For sports, I would look at Vegan bodybuilding for the best suggestions to get enough protein. That is the second link. You tell me if you think they aren't getting enough protein in their pictures

Bryan, protein is not hard to come across at all being vegetarian.

Here's some high sources of protein:
- nuts/nut butter
- fortified breakfast cereal (Kashi Go Lean Original is a good one.)
- soybeans
- tofu
- milk/cheese/yogurt (Greek yogurt is amazing on protein)
- TVP (textured vegetable protein - great to add to oatmeal)
- Legumes
- Quinoa
- eggs

Good luck & Merry Christmas!

You can get this info in about 5 minutes through a search engine. I've never even seen a protein pill and take no other supplements and I'm healthier than I was 5 years ago when I quit eating meat.
