is honey vegan? help!?!

Question: Is honey vegan? help!?
im a chef and i have to cook for a vegan tonight,
im going vegan sushi with some soy protein wrappers i found whilst shopping
then a veggie lasagne with some kind of veg stock coagulation in between.
and for dessert im doing a soy milk rice pudding but need to know if honey is vegan because technically they dont create honey from themselves they use pollen so if any vegans out there can help, it would be very much appreciated.

Answers:

Honey is not vegan.

Vegans are against animal exploitation, bees are exploited for their honey, thats why vegans dont consume it.

Just play it safe. Omit the honey. Use Agave nectar in place of it. We decided on a major recipe site that we would NOT include honey in Vegan as a compromise and allowed it in Vegetarian because there were some who said it was fine in both Vegetarian and Vegan. Don't guess. Just play it safe. Don't use it. Would be a shame to have them not be able to eat what you prepare because of the honey.

That question of honey was a war zone on a cooking site and I moderated the recipes that were submitted to the database.

Actually, bees do create honey for themselves. It is their stored food supply.
To answer your question, no, honey is not vegan. There are a select few who will argue against this point, but nothing that contains honey can be certified as vegan, so it's better safe than sorry. I would suggest using agave nectar instead.

Vegan means not derived from an animal. Honey is a bee derived product, bees are animals, ergo it is not vegan. Agave syrup is the most common vegan replacement.

By the way, honey is not pollen, it is a product that comes from the bee after they consume pollen, similar to vomit or mucas.

It is an animal by product so it is Not vegan.

And the lasgana sounds Awful...veggie stock coagulation. Nasty. Use soy or may white sauce using oil, flour and soy or almond milk.

And as fars as the sushi why not use traditional sea weead wrappers. There is nothing wrong with seaweed, and it is traditional. Don;t; try to change it to much.

No, honey is not vegan, and a lot of vegans like myself would be very offended to find out that you made something, and called it 'vegan' yet it had honey in it.
Use agave nectar instead.

A Vegan.

absolutely not, it is an animal prduct.
it's from bees.

vegan

I think everyone should stop eating honey. It is wrong and everyone should do what I say!

chef

it depends on your beliefs really, some say it is, some not as it is made by the bees but not fully

substitute maple syrup for honey and you should be ok

honey is bee puke. not vegan

Nope, it isn't...

Honey is not vegan, but it is vegetarian.

In my opinion, honey should become vegan, though.

The bees are not harmed or killed to produce honey.

Yes, it's taken away from them, but it's not nearly as cruel as what cows, calves, and chickens have to endure to produce dairy and eggs.

In my opinion, someone who doesn't eat meat, fish, seafood, poultry, dairy, eggs, or use any animal derived clothing, hygiene products, or furniture but consumes honey is a vegan.

But by definition, they're not.

Vegetarian

It depends on how vegan they are. Most vegans however do not eat anything that is made by, from, or through any type of animal. So I would say honey is not okay just to be on the safe side.

I have researched vegitarianism and veganism for many years.
