Cornstarch is simply a carbohydrate. It is a starch and is 100% carbohydrate. Eating cornstarch is no different to your body then eating sugar. As all carbohydrates go they do not directly make you gain weight. You gain weight from protein (as in muscle growth) and from lipids (as in fat storage). All carbohydrates do is give your body the fuel to convert those.

Corn starch is good for doing things like thinking soups and stews. It is used in very small amounts. Treat is exactly how you would sugar.

Cornstarch does contain calories, and it's fairly calory-dense, being a starch. That said, the amount of corn starch in any food you eat or prepare is so small as to not make a difference for weight gain. Not only are starches processed and burned very quickly by the body, but its typical use in food is as a thickening or fixing agent, where a very tiny amount is used for a large volume of thin or liquidy food. This isn't going to add much at all to your caloric intake. Starches do not have any special ability to "stick" to you, and in fact are probably easier to metabolize than most food products.

Hope this has been helpful for you! Good luck.
