Strainer/Colander small enough for quinoa?!

Question: Strainer/Colander small enough for quinoa?
I've yet to find one. Has anyone else found a good brand to strain uncooked quinoa? I always have to use the pot and lid method (which takes 500 years) and I lose half of the teeny grains. Any suggestions? I don't buy pre-rinsed because it's more expensive. O_O

Answers:

I use a fine mesh strainer. I have them in various sizes, acquired at different kitchenware stores through the years.

Some of the strainers on that link look about right. Just do a google search for Fine Mesh Strainer, and then click on the shopping tag at the top.

You will find them at department stores, and in hardware stores with good housewares sections.

Funny, your timing is perfect - I JUST rinsed and strained some quinoa that I intend to eat this afternoon!

:)

A colander would be no good as the holes are too big.

I use a hospitality strainer, as it is larger than a standard home kitchen strainer.

I think it is also known as a Conical Strainer. I just call it a hospitality strainer because it is the type they use in a commercial restaurant kitchen.

Make sure you buy one with fine or ultra fine mesh, as it has the smallest holes. There are many different types available, depending on what you want to use it for.

You can normally buy them from specialized gourmet kitchen shops or hospitality outlets. I brought mine from a hospitality chef dealer.

Something like this maybe:

I have never lost a grain yet.

Yeah, why don't you just get a fine mesh strainer?
