what happens if you eat the outer shell of a soy bean pod?!

Question: What happens if you eat the outer shell of a soy bean pod?
We cooked up some edamame (soy beans) and on the back of the bag it says "shell beans before eating. Do not consume pod" So we were wondering what would happen if you eat it? Its fuzzy and it tickles my lips.... wonder if it would tickle my tummy too....

Answers:

the pod is a bit harder to digest because the fibers don't break down in your system as easily. Nothing BAD will happen... but the pods don't taste all that great! Often the shells are ground up for animal feed.

My cousin ate them once by accident (He was watching me eat them, so I assumed he had figured it out, but no) He was fine. Its probably just a lot fiber, they don't taste very good and are hard to chew. My guess would be you just poo it out later.

Oh. You aren't supposed to eat those? Oops.

I've eaten the entire pod before, and I didn't feel sick or anything. It was tasty. But I suppose if they say not to eat it, then you shouldn't, and I should stop. Haha.

I eat them all the time. Just chew them very, very well. They taste like butter.
