Will I always get gas from beans, or is it just part of the transition?!

Question: Will I always get gas from beans, or is it just part of the transition?
I have added more beans and raw veggies in my diet since trying to transition to veganism a few days ago and have noticed I have had gas for 2 days straight. At times it can be painful and produce a very bad odor (I'm not trying to be funny).

Will this go away in time or will I always have this kind of gas?

Answers:

There are a few things you can do to stop beans giving you gas:
Firstly, try soaking them for longer. You could even partially sprout them (which is going to make them super nutritious!)
Secondly, make sure that you discard the soaking water, give the beans a quick rinse, and then add fresh water when you cook them.
Thirdly, get hold of some seaweed - such as kombu, or wakame, or nori, or kelp. Put a small strip of seaweed in with the beans when you cook them. I think from experience that this is very effective. You could cut it up into little pieces and scatter it in otherwise. (If you choose you can remove it after you cook but I never bother - seaweed is also very nutritious and mineral rich.)
Another thing I find helps is to keep things simple for my digestion, and not eat more than one concentrated food (eg. beans, or rice, or bread, or potatoes) in the same meal - so if you eat beans, you could eat them alone or with vegetables or salad. (This principle comes from Harvey Diamond's "Fit for Life")

Some people are allergic to kidney and pinto beans. Allergies will give you a bad stomach ache. Keep a food diary, and introduce one thing at a time until you can narrow down which beans and vegetable give you a stomach ache.

When I switched to a vegan diet it took almost two weeks for my system to "clear out". Your body is going through detox initially which is the normal reaction for elimination of foods you have eaten before but don't anymore.

Because you are getting more fiber in your diet, it might help to drink more water. :)

Vegan

part of it could be the transition for you, What kind of beans are you eating and are you rinsing them well before?

You are gassy because of the high levels of fiber/protein you are getting.
It greatly means your body is healthy :)

beans will always produce gas. i would go get some Beano to help out.
