What consistancy are Tofurkeys?!

Question: What consistancy are Tofurkeys?
I am debating getting a Tofurkey for Christmas, but wondering what consistancy are they? What do they taste like? Are they good or nasty?

We had a mixed omni/vegan T-giving meal this year, my partner and I supplying some vegan veggie dishes and a Tofurkey meal plus a Field Roast "Celebration Roast" meal. The Tofurkey was pretty good, something I'd definitely eat again if it wasn't priced for special occasions. The Field Roast, which was slightly more expensive, was AWESOME. Seriously good stuff, and about twice the size of the Tofurkey roast. If you're going to go for a special-occasion type of vegan feast, I highly suggest the FR Celebration Meal. It's firm, the stuffing portion is nice and moist, all very flavorful. The consistency is not like a veg burger at all-- these sorts of items are much denser, made from a combination of gluten and soy, and pleasantly chewy. Good mouth-feel. Or, you know, you could cook some awesome veg foods yourself-- then you can make the food exactly as you like it. Whichever way you go I highly suggest making some veg mushroom gravy from Post Punk Kitchen's recipe (link in sources list). Good luck!

We have also had this debate but have decided against it. Since we went with strict vegetarian eating we have made it a rule never to eat something that is pretending to be something it isn't because it will always be a disappointment. The reason we enjoy our new diet so much is because we make food that is honest. All the Tofu meat substitutes are soft and soggy.
I think that to stop eating animal based foods means to change completely to a plant based way of eating by seeking out delicious recipes from cuisines that have never based their diets on animals. If you live in a decent sized town or city you might find such food that you can buy . We don't so I make it myself. Why not work out a really yummy meal that is genuinely vege? For example many Indian recipes are vegetarian. It can be fun to try a completely different theme.

Similar to the consistency of a tofu burger... If you've ever had a real turkey, I can tell you that the consistency is not the same. I don't prefer the taste. Even the ones that are already seasoned, still taste bland to me. In my opinion they aren't horrible, but I usually just do without.

I was trying to go veg last year and bought one. It was ok, not great. The stuffing inside it was good, but the fake turkey outside, I didn't care for at all. I'd just make stuffing and the other fixings that usually go with a turkey type dinner. The stuffing is always the best part anyway.

a combination between clumped sand and rubber. sorry I don't like them very much.

tofu and turkey

taste good
