Vegan/Vegetarians: What caused you to become one?!

Question: Vegan/Vegetarians: What caused you to become one?
I am not a Vegan personally, but I just have some questions I have wanted to ask for a while. This first question is: Why did you become a Vegan/Vegetarian? Thanks ahead of time.

Wow is a loooong story. First of all, I had this parakeet who came to my house flying and I really loved her. She showed so much affection to me. So I started searching some info on internet. I ended up on Peta looking for nice toys for parakeets to order and on the front page there was this Pamela Anderson video (I recommend you to see) about KFCruelty. I just saw it once and never wanted to eat in KFC again. I felt alone about my decision but I knew it was correct.(I don't live in USA and here nobody says bad things about KFC, it's just another restaurant that works normally in my country).
Then many years after that, I joined an activism group against bullfighting (which occurs in my country) and there were hundreds of guys in this group so I didn't felt alone. Finally I realized I didn't want to eat bull's meat and then I said if I can't eat bull's meat why I am eating chicken if they suffer equally. So I had support from more friends I met in this activism group. It was easier to go through the whole process because most of them are vegetarians too.

I am a vegan because I love animals, and the thought of them living just for the purpose of feeding insensitive humans just sickens me. We can easily live without and be healthier at that...of course, I don't belittle anyone who does eat meat though.

But also for the environment, and all the positive health aspects to it. :) I don't plan on ever changing!

Vegetarian for 3 years, vegan for 1.

I became a vegan because some of my favorite bands at the time (afi and my chemical romance) mentioned the issues, and when I learned about how animals were treated, I couldn't live with myself eating meat. I was vegetarian for a couple years and then anti-flag (another band) made me want to go vegan.

Basically because I love animals and didn't like that they are treated cruelly, and I found some good role models.

I just recently became a Vegan myself. Basically:
- The thought of consuming breast milk from a cow grosses me out
- The thought of consuming meat from anything grosses me out
- The thought of consuming a chicken's period grosses me out
- The thought of consuming regurgitated nectar (honey) grosses me out
So I thought: If I don't enjoy eating the above, why the heck am I?

I'll admit, it definitely wasn't for animal rights that I went vegan; I still don't really care that much about them- but hey, if they benefit from my dietary habits, then that's just all the more reason to stay vegan.

I am a vegetarian because I am against killing animals to eat. There are other products, such as eggs and cheese, that I eat as a vegetarian but a vegan does not. I do not mind the products that come from animals as long as they are treated humanely, for example I only buy eggs that come from free range chickens.

I took an ENG201 class in college and our first required reading was "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser. It was very eye opening to the factory farming industry and to how the workers of McDonald's are treated. During the same time, there were college kids on the pathways to class handing out pamphlets about eating less meat or going vegetarian or vegan to help the suffering of animals. The pamphlets had a lot of shocking and sad information. The final straw was a group trip to Bennigans, where I ordered a BBQ Hamburger Pita. I thought it was delicious...except for the meat. I was in the middle of picking out the meat and it just hit me. "I should try vegetarianism". All the dots finally connected in that moment.

I was vegetarian for just under 2 years and had tried veganism for about 2 months, but ultimately went back to vegetarianism because of my love for cheese. However, after doing much more research and reading more books on the topic, I decided that I felt really strongly about taking the leap into veganism. Since then I've just been digging further into the lifestyle by cooking up a storm and finding other various vegan treasures.

Vegan

Meat just starting to become more and more unappealing to me when I started seeing it for what it really was: FLESH, blood, veins, muscle, fat, the odd bone. Why not just eat my own arm while I'm at it?

I began to look into vegetarianism, and came across the video "Meet Your Meat" which completely sent me over the edge. After that, I didn't even really consider it an option for me to continue eating meat.

Well, I've been a vegetarian since birth (my mom is a vegetarian and has been since she was 17, and my dad was a pescetarian since birth but is now a vegetarian). I continue to be a vegetarian for ethical reasons, and also, I just don't want to eat meat.

I became a vegan after learning the way animals are treated and killed in the meat, egg and fishing industries, and the way they're treated in the dairy industry.

I just couldn't bear the thought of animals being hurt and killed for our food when there are healthy alternatives. I'm happy with my decision.

Vegetarian

I became a vegetarian because meat is made of animals.

Because I don't want to eat animals.

Eating is the most intimate thing we do. I'd rather not put animals into my body.
