When I went vegetarian I actually gained weight because I resorted to carbs and sugar. I didn't replace my meat, I just eliminated it. For example, when my mom made steak, potatoes, and rolls for dinner I just ate the potatoes and rolls, which are fattening carbs.
From my own experiences, being vegetarian doesn't really mean you'll lose weight. You have to still count calories and limit your foods.
However, I've done vegan for 1 week in the past and noticed dramatic improvements without counting calories. By simply eating vegan foods, and eating when I wanted, I lost a couple pounds and my acne cleared up within a few days.
If you want to go vegetarian to lose weight, you're still going to have to count calories. Personally I think being a vegan will nearly guarantee weight loss.

There is no guarantee for losing weight when you stop eating meat or dairy, because weight loss has to do with calories. Consume fewer calories than you exert and you will lose weight.

Having said that, being vegan does make weight loss much easier, because you're already cutting out meat and dairy which are both high in fat and calories. Fruits and vegetables are naturally lower in fat and calories than animal products. So, stay vegan, keep an eye on calories, exercise regularly and your weight loss will be simple and easy! :)

I have been in weight loss phases as both a meat-eater and a vegan, and it was MUCH easier as a vegan.

It all depends on what you eat. Vegetarians can still eat unhealthy. I'm a vegetarian and I personally eat a lot of carbs. I eat veggies & fruit of course too. I'm not overweight or anything but I'm just saying we don't eat extremely healthy all of the time...

You can eat meat and still lose weight. Eat everything in moderation and excersize. I know a lot of people who lost weight just by drinking healthier .. cutting out soda, sugary juices, etc.

For me, yes!
I lost quite a bit of weight. Back in August when I just begun, I had to go to the doctors and they weighed me. 129lbs. Now, I am 120.
Since I became a vegetarian though my apatite decreased a lot though, I don't eat as much. Plus I work out quite a bit. But I don't eat all the things I should.

not exactly
losing weight is about portion control and exercise. and whole unprocessed foods.

you might benefit more from a gluten free diet. which means avoiding wheat, barley, and rye.
that means no bread and no beer etc etc. scientists are finding outthat humans guts don't like gluten so much and maybe we are over doing it a bit. maybe wheat gluten is to blame for the rise in autism and allergies worldwide? anyhow i am a chef. check out my new blog!
