What's the best way to cook Tofu?!

Question: What's the best way to cook Tofu?
Hi,

I'm going Vegetarian if not Vegan starting next month. Growing up, I've never liked the taste of meat. I'm in College now, and starting to realize maybe going Vegetarian/Vegan is maybe right for me. Anyhow, I have two packages of Nasoya Tofu Extra Firm I picked up from Target yesterday.
I also have the following...

1 Box of Brown Rice(4 bags in the box)
Flour
3 Bags of Frozen Vegetables(Cauliflower & Carrots, Mixed Asian Medley, Broccoli)
Stir Fry Sauce
Whole Wheat Pasta
Red Onion

What's the best way to cook Tofu? Is Tofu really good?

Thanks!

Hello,
I am not a big fan of soft tofu, so I usually cook mine by baking it or frying it. Try adding some vegetable oil to a pan and frying the tofu in strips or cubes. You could also cut the tofu into triangles (or really any shape you would like) and baking it at 400 for about 20 minutes or so (it's really your call). If you don't have an oven or stove available to you, you can also cook it in a toaster oven.

Tofu is really a great source to get protein from, but don't eat tofu every day of the week. Tofu has been found to have levels of estrogen and can have some negative effects if you eat tofu every day. But don't let that set you off of tofu.

With what you have listed, it looks like you can make a stir fry. Try cooking your tofu in cubes in a pan until they are golden and crispy. Boil the pasta in pot. Use the mixed asian medley and put it into the same pan as the tofu. When the vegetables have cooked, add the stir fry sauce to the pan. Add the drained pasta to the same pan and mix it with the vegetables, tofu, and stir fry sauce.

If you are considering becoming vegan or vegetarian, you should visit vegweb.com. It is a website where people can swap vegan/vegetarian recipes. Good luck!

You can add marinated tofu to stir fry

It would work, since you have frozen mixed veggies, sauce, and brown rice.

Also you could pick up silken/soft tofu and have a smoothie.

I like to sautee it. I haven't had a chance to grill it yet, but when I do, I'm going to make my own BBQ sauce and everything. >=D

its really nice deep fried

My favorite way is to microwave it. Sounds crazy but it is fast and easy and everyone I've served it to likes it, even people who "don't like tofu."

Cut a block of firm or extra firm refrigerated tofu in half the short way and return half to the fridge covered in water and sealed in a container - use that up within a few days.

So take the remaining half block and cut it the same direction into 4 equal slices. Arrange them on a plate and pour a little soy sauce on them. You don't need a puddle, just a light coating. MIcrowave on high 5 minutes. Flip the pieces over and microwave on high 3 minutes. If your microwave is underpowered, you may need to add a few minutes. You are going for a nice chewy consistency somewhere between squishy-raw and eraser. It will firm up a bit more after cooking. You can always give it another minute if it is too squishy, but if it's hard just try again with less cooking next time.

Let it cool a few minutes and then I usually slice it into very small strips. These can be eaten just as they are as a snack, hot or cold, or on a salad, in a stir fry or any other recipe. You can also take these pieces uncut and bread and fry them - delicious. You can omit the soy sauce if it would interfere with the final dish.

This doesn't work with Mori-Nu tofu.

If you aren't worried about a healthy meal, deep fried is delicious

If you want a heart-healthy meal though, scramble the tofu like you would eggs with Pam salt and pepper. Then put the brown rice in the microwave and cook it for the allotted time. Chop up the red onion and after the tofu is cooked, you can cook the onion as much as desired.Steam the broccoli and heat up the stir fry sauce. When everything is cooked/hot, add it all in the pan, (very large pan, I hope), and stir fry it all for a few minutes together to get the taste mixed together. Add more salt and pepper, and if you don't want to use the stir fry sauce, hot sauce is amazing with tofu:)

Good luck!
