How am I doing today as a vegan?!

Question: How am I doing today as a vegan?
I've gone vegan for a few days before but now that my parents know I want to be vegan, I can actually cook myself full meals (lol). So this is what I ate today.

Breakfast (9am):
Quaker oatmeal (100% pure oats, no flavoring or sugar)
Banana
Glass of soy milk

Lunch (1pm):
1/2 cup of black beans, 1/2 cup of corn, and 1/4 cup of peas mixed together with 2oz of farfalle noodles, sprinkle of salt for flavor

I drank 16oz of water so far. It's 1:30pm and I woke up at 8:30am.
I've had 724 calories, 146 carbs, 8 grams of fat, and 30 grams of protein (this is all from a website where I enter my foods, I'm not counting every little calorie haha).
What do you think? I'm 15, 5'4'', and about 145 pounds...
By the way, I'm trying to lose a little bit of weight so I'm aim for around 1400-1600 calories a day. I'm also following the vegan food pyramid for getting good amounts of each food. Am I doing alright?

Answers:

Yes, you are eating very healthy:) If you ever need protein, you could always eat a cup of edamame. It is low-calorie and very filling. Whenever I really want a vegan cookie (500 calories, wow), I eat a bowl of edamame and I not only feel fuller, but I know I ate healthier:)

Email me if you want, I always enjoy conversations with people that are vegan, there aren't many where I live!

Don't be obsessive over calories and all that crap. Your doing fine. If you think your eating bad you probably are. But you're not. I found that tracking calories helped me in no way. Just try to avoid to much acid(from juice), salt, sugars, and refined oils.

add some dessert like green apples n clementines

Yeah, you're doing alright.

You did good!!

Sounds good to me..

that sounds great! I'm a lot smaller than you by like 4 inches lol so I am trying to maintain less calories than you. I probably would have saved the banana for a mid-morning meal and then had a smaller lunch. It is better to eat smaller meals more frequently. Make smaller portions, eat when you are genuinely hungry and stop when you are no longer hungry, not full. Consuming more fibers and proteins will help keep you fuller longer than useless calories, but you haven't had anything really with useless calories. Keep up the good work!

You are doing well, and making smart food choices. A dietitian would have you write down what you eat for a week or two, then go back and look at how you're doing overall. Since you're using salt, make sure the salt is iodized. There are some specific things to keep in mind for a diet for a teen-aged female. One is iron. Because girls lose iron when you bleed monthly with your period, your iron requirements are much higher than for a male. Iron from a plants-based diet, called nonheme iron, absorbs differently, and so it calls for a bit more iron, and adding extra vitamin C-rich foods that helps absorb iron with your meal helps too. The DRI for iron is 15mg for your gender and age. We multiply that by 1.8 = 27mg from plants. That's the recommendation for a plants-based diet for a teen female. It's pretty high! And that means you have to pay close attention to that--especially when you're restricting the amount of food you're eating. The other thing to pay attention to as a young female is calcium (and vitamin D that works with calcium in your body).

Finally, if you're relying on your soy milk for the added vitamin B12, it's advisable to have a source of B12 twice a day in that case. Absorption of vitamin B12 taken in small amounts is about 50%. If you take a supplement, there's no need for twice.

But it looks like you're off to a good start, and eating healthy foods. I ate the same breakfast, with nuts added, and a tablespoon of ground organic flax seed.

Not bad. But one healthy meal or one healthy day does not mean a healthy lifestyle. You need to be consistent but also aware that splurging on something "unhealthy" every once in a while in not necessarily a bad thing. Some foods (vegan in your case) may be unhealthy but make you feel good emotionally. Mental and emotional good health are important parts of overall good health

You are 3 inches shorter and about 25 lbs heavier than my daughter who is also 15. I would not be too concerned about weight though. If you eat well and exercise reasonably, you will lose unnecessary weight without even really trying.

You've been awake for 5 hours and you have already eaten 800 calories? Holy crap!
It's called self control, if you want to lose weight. Being vegan doesn't guarantee weight loss.
