People who are against drinking cow milk! Please Answer!?!

Question: People who are against drinking cow milk! Please Answer!?
Ok, well I have to do a debate for school and my topic is is drinking milk really healthy. I am on the con side (drinking milk is not healthy.) I have done a lot of researching, but I just would like some feedback and personal experiences from the con community. If you have any websites about the negatives of milk and any advice, that would be great, too. I think all this would really help me. Thank you for all the answers! :)

Milk is high in cholesterol, and humans do not need any cholesterol from food. We produce it all ourselves.
Countries with the highest consumption rate of milk also have the highest rates of osteoporosis.
Cows milk isn't meant to be drunken by adult humans. That's why 70% of adults are lactose intolerant.
You can also fight by saying it is no natural what-so-ever. To back this up, humans are the only species that consumes milk after infancy. We're also the only species that consumes milk from another species. That's like a gorilla consuming a zebra's milk. Not natural or meant to be.

Well, name me one creature who drinks the milk of another creature and/or drinks milk beyond infancy. The dairy industry wants to increase sales of its products, so of course they're going to imply that dairy is necessary for human health. But excess protein, especially animal protein, causes calcium loss, and contrary to what the dairy industry would have you believe, societies with high dairy consumption have high rates of osteoporosis.

Many non-white populations are lactose intolerant; the reason populations of European ancestry have lactase persistence is they keep drinking milk beyond the point at which most people stop nursing.

But I stopped using milk when I found out that the sons of dairy cows become veal. There's a piece of veal in every glass of milk.

Cookie,

I think it'd be great if you not only listed the UNHEALTHY components of milk,
but looked up the nutrients that are likely going to be cited by the "healthy" side
(IE, calcium, Vitamin D, etc) and listed all the foods that have those amounts,
some of them in greater quantities.

There's no way you can lose. :)

i like what another person said, about rephrasing the question to, do we NEED it in order to be healthy. cuz the media has done a great job telling us we definitely do need it with the whole Got Milk ads. u might also want to talk about what the milk industry is actually like. it's disgusting and disturbing the way they treat the animals!

check this out. peta might not hold a great rep for some people, but their information is well researched and accurate.

Milk is high in cholesterol and saturated fat.

Look up the fat content in boxes of macaroni & cheese, whole milk, and cheese slices.

Soy milk, Rice milk, and almond milk are low fat, cholesterol free alternatives that give your body the same vitamins and minerals milk has.

Vegetarian

Well, just put this into perspective.
Is it "normal" to drink another mammal's milk
made for its own young?

Of course not.

It's Ok but it is not the best Milk. Try Soymilk or Almond Milk.

Maybe if you approached the subject not as "is drinking milk healthy" but rather, do we NEED it to be healthy?

Use points like: all mammals STOP drinking milk once they've matured. No mammals drink another specie's milk. So why do we humans, who are supposed to be the smartest, continue doing something even the non-reasoning creatures have the common sense to stop doing? Why do we find the idea of drinking human breast milk gross, but bovine udder milk acceptable? From this standpoint, milk seems unnessescary.

Then, from the oh so popular "What about calcium?" argument, remind your audience that the dairy industry has a huge advertising budget completely focused on convincing the public that dairy is the ONLY way to get calcium. Also remind them that the dairy industry is a business, and that any business will do what needs to be done to make money. And that includes OVEREXAGGERATING how "NESSESCARY" their product is for you to be healthy.

Lastly, inform them that you can get calcium in much healthier, less fatty ways. Dark leafy green vegetables are jam packed with all the calcium a person needs. If you eat dark leafy greens daily, then a person will be fine. I recommend you looking up the calcium content on some plant foods and giving them an example meal plan for a day with sufficient calcium intake.

Instead of focusing on ways to make milk sound bad or unhealthy, which might make people think you're crazy, just try and prove that milk isn't the ONLY source of calcium, and it certainly is not the best.
