How can I become a vegan?!

Question: How can I become a vegan?
I've been a vegetarian for a while now and I've been seriously considering going vegan but I always thought it'd be too hard for me. I've got a big sweet tooth, but a lot of deserts (especially ones you dont have to make yourself) have animal products. I also LOVE Starbucks but almost nothing there is vegan. I also live in a very rural place so it's hard enough to find vegetarian foods, much less vegan. So, can you guys help me? Please and thank you.

No dairy products. Don't forget to add in a good multi-vitamin.

I live in rural Alberta - cattle country - and yes, you can be a vegan even here if you choose. No matter where you live you can usually get legumes (beans, lentils, etc.) which are important protein sources. Buy yourself a slow cooker and learn how to cook them. (Buy "Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker") You can also buy them canned. They can be used in lots of different dishes.
I've shared the link to the book "Becoming Vegan," also to my favourite online source of vegan recipes and info, vegweb.com. There are forums where you can ask questions and get more info.
Good luck.

Congrats on deciding to lead a compassionate lifestyle!

To reconcile your sweet tooth, try finding vegan candy rather than desserts. In urban areas there are sometimes vegan friendly bakeries, but you said you were in a rural area so I'll assume that's out of the question. So instead of turning to baked goods, maybe finding a vegan candy sold in drugstores?
And like another user suggested, try vanilla or chocolate (or even regualr)soy milk in your coffee.

Well vegan is no animal products at all. I think you should stay vegetarian. Think of it this way: the cave men drank milk and ate eggs. So did George Washington and Rosa Parks. Try to just go with soy milk. Start off that way then go to egg beaters. Just be vegan at home. Soy milk, egg substitute, and lots of tofu! Good luck!

good luck! i am hoping to become a vegan once life "settles" down. meanwhile, i hope this website helps you out.
also, remember, starbucks have many other things such as tea and smoothies.
you can also plan trips into a larger town to buy things that are not sold at your local store.

Being a vegan is pretty tough, but for the starbucks thing you could always get soy milk in your drinks instead. Some organic stores will have desserts for you.

You're vegetarian, you're pretty much all the way there. Just swap the Crisco for vegetable oil. Bam.

brunch daily:
2 organic green apples, 2 nespressos, liter evian,
bruschetta on half panera french baguette
(extra virgin olive oil, pesto, sundried tomato, cup tomato mix, cup goatcheese crumbles)

Do some reading, get some books on it. A vegan diet can be just as healthy as any other diet and you can still have an interesting diet, but it has to be done properly.

If you want to be a vegan, you basically have to give up all food that tastes good

Just become one, if you must,

First you have to surrender your manhood.
