U don't have to take supplements when U go veg if U eat a variety of fruits, nuts & veggies... they will contain all the vitamins & minerals U need including protein.
P.S. My soy milk has B-12

First since it came up in another post: Fish is not Vegetarian. It is Pescetarian. If you choose to eat this you should not call yourself Vegetarian. The first two links explain this.
Next. You may be lacking in Iron and other items. The best way is to have your doctor run a blood test to find out what you are lacking then include foods [best way] and supplements that supply this. Be aware that you MUST take a B 12 if you are not eating dairy and eggs. If you are you can also try a B 12 supplement to see if that was part of the problem.
The VGR article tells you a bit about what you need in the 3rd link. The 4th link will give you your needs in a nutshell and would be very good for your mother to also read. The last link is similar and also good for your mother to read also.
