I've heard that many fruitarians simply buy fruit, even if they don't know if it fell naturally off a plant. Picking an apple from a tree doesn't kill the entire tree itself, so that's mainly why fruitarians eat fruit.
Usually the stricter fruitarians are concerned about if it's naturally fallen off a plant already. But most will just eat fruit/nuts/seeds from the store.

Most fruitarians follow the diet for health reasons rather than moral reasons. However, those that do follow the diet due to morality normally follow the notion that anything that is botanically considered a fruit is meant to be disbursed by the plant, and it therefore does no injure the plant to have it removed. That would make foods available in grocery stores and super markets suitable.

Only the strictest fruitarians will not eat "picked" fruits. The majority simply eat items that come FROM a plant that do not require plant death to acquire... easily done at any grocery store. The first (uber strict type) would likely have to grow their own fruits or visit "pick your own" places exclusively.
