I think it is a great Idea.
Kinda old fashioned, but I wouldn't consider it weird. Not as many people do that anymore, but it's a great way to see what you're spending and how to save money.
when im short of funds and have to shop, i whip out the one on my iphone. it saves for embarassment should i get to the checkout and have to give things back cuz i dont have enough.
No it is not. I know people who do that. Taking your calculator to the store is actually a good way to save money when you go food shopping.
