I love sesame oil. a little goes a long way in flavoring. It must be refrigerated to keep from becoming rancid.

Your name suggests that you are an Indian and of course South Indian. It is surprising that in a land where Sesame oil is used in decent quantum, You seem to have this Doubt.Any way having asked please follow the answer :

Sesame oil is largely used in central and north India as a cooking medium as well as skin preserving medium when applied on the affected surface(esp. dry and cracked skin). The Problem it poses is its odd taste and smell. It has sulfur in its chemical composition, which alone needs to be attended. When consumed as it is, it is harmful.Experienced elders know to tackle this problem. All it needs to.... is that it should be heated for for few miinutes before being used. During its early stage of heating process the sulphur gets evoporated and subsequently it becomes relatively harmless and is ready for any application. As compared with other vegetable oils, it has less fatty acids and more antioxidants as well as Vitamine D and E.I t is not costly in India (normal pricing, similar to Gingely oil).

I don't know of any disadvantages of it. It's a flavoring oil not a cooking oil. It is pretty expensive and the average person probably can't use a full bottle before it goes bad. I have a bottle that is about half full and the oil has leeched out of the top and stained the label. It looks kind of ugly.
It tastes good though when used in moderation because it can overwhelm a dish easily if over used.

Like any oil, sesame oil is high in polyunsaturated fats, which can be detrimental to your heart. But taken in small quantities, the risk of polyunsaturated fats are far over shadowed by the benefits sesame oil gives you! High in antioxidants, and natural source of vitamin E. Used in normal quantities, there's pretty much no disadvantages to sesame oil!
