After being a vegetarian for a long period of time, can you really develop a meat allergy?!

Question: After being a vegetarian for a long period of time, can you really develop a meat allergy?
I'm a vegetarian, along with my best friend. I do not at all intend on ceasing to be a vegetarian, but I am curious. She told me that if someone is a vegetarian for a long period of time (many many many years), they will become susceptible to a meat allergy and can in fact become very sick if they attempt to eat meat again. Is this true? I'm not all too sure. I mean, humans ARE meant to be omnivores, but is this statement really true?

I don't believe there is such a thing as a meat allergy. The only way you can be sure is to consult with A specialist that studies allergies in food.

You won't become allergic, but your digestive system can stop producing the enzymes needed to digest meat. Similar to being lactose intolerant. When you're lactose intolerant, your body doesn't produce the enzymes needed to digest lactose. But you can still eat dairy, but you just get really bad stomach aches and digestive problems.
Similar to meat. After a long period of time without meat, suddenly eating meat again will most likely give you a stomach ache and some digestive problems for a while. But if you're consistent and continue eating meat, eventually your body will adjust to a meat diet once again.

My grandma was a vegan and a week before she went to the doctors would eat tons of meat to seem healthy (yeah don't understand that either) but she would end up sick for weeks...

I'm a veggi, I ordered a bean taco at some place and they gave mi a beef, I took a bite not knowing and almost threw up.. Not cuz I didn't like the taste, well I didn't but my stomach wouldn't take it.. Ugg soo gross..

If you became a veggi for lets say 3years then changed your mind and went back to eating meat, you would have to eat small amounts, you couldn't go to a buffet and eat all you want meat.. Hope that helps

I guess people can develop allergies any time in their life. But the scenario you're putting out is not an allergy. You're suggesting that someone can lose the ability to digest meat if they don't eat it for years. Whether you chose to eat meat or not doesn't affect your ability to digest it.

Not so much a meat allergy it just takes your body a while to get used to processing the meat again.

personal experience

well, people sometimes can develop allergies later in life and i'm sure there's a such thing as an allergy to meat but i don't think being a vegetarian would cause it.

NO, and anyone who thinks that is a moron who knows nothing about cellular biology.
