Question: I'm turning vegetarian for my new years resolution.?
So Iv been thinking about going vegetarian for quite some time and I'm hoping to start in the begining of 2011.

Start stocking your pantry with natural healthful food items. A good book to start with is "Diet for a Small Planet. You will lose weight if you maintain a healthful diet and get plenty of exercise.

Hi there,
Hope you are doing good. It's good to know that you want to turn to vegetarianism. Hope my tips are useful to you.

First, it is not a good idea to aim at losing too much weight or cut down on the intake of calories instantly since it might make you weak. You have to do it in a slow and studied manner. A good dietitian will be able to help you aptly by providing you relevant tips of a balanced veggie diet. Generally, a good veggie diet includes a lot of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and calcium. For this, you need to have lots of fruits, vegetables and fresh juices. Also, make sure you start eating salads more often.

Enjoy your new-found veggie food style.

ok turning vegi for your reasons is not good mentally. To make this kind of life choice it needs to be for serious reasons such as care for the animals welfare or rights to live as we do. If you go into this thing with a reason only to lose weight you more than likely will fail. All root veg are very good for you and are high in iron zinc and many other needed vitamins we need in a healthy diet. In fact the human body has not matured or developed to eat meat or dairy products as a species we are more suited to eating veg and fruits. As for your weight issue eating healthy is not enough it must be helped with an active lifestyle such a daily exercise or gym work 2 to 3 times a week. Im a meat eater but will not eat fish as i dont agree with the fishing nets used and the over fishing of certain kinds a fish. Also im a chef and am well informed in this area . Try tofu as a meat replacer and egg plant is also meaty texture good luck with it and all my best

Weight loss depends on what you eat. If you eat junk food with a lot of fat and sugar that takes you over the amount of calories you need to maintain your body weight you won't lose. If you increase activity it will help.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are a first choice as is tempeh, tofu and seitan. Frozen is the next choice. You might find the Vegan recipes here helpful in the 21 day kick start. If you are eating eggs and dairy you can add those products in or recipes with those products. The kick start will give you a menu when it starts and help guide you to healthy foods and provide a lot of good information.

Vegetarians have different reasons for being Vegetarian. You can be an ethical one or a health one. What matters is the choice is something you want.

If it is somehting you hav ebeen thinking about for a while then you should do some reserach about diet, nutrition etc...

Before you do this do research on your own; Not just asking what foods to eat on YA.

However just like Any other diet you need to eat a balaced diet. This is 3 meals and 2 snacks.

Eat a rainbow of fruits and veggies every day. Limit carbs, eand of those carbs eat brown, whole wheat or multigrain.

Eat lean protien.

So your plate should consist of 1/4 lean protien, 1/4 starch/carbs 1/2 veggies.

Just becaue yu go vegitrian does not mean you will automically be healthier and loose weight. There is plenty of vegitarian junk food out there as well.
