Why are people so against vegetarians?!

Question: Why are people so against vegetarians?
I've been a vegetarian for 10 years and during that time I've been pressured nonstop by others to eat meat again. Why do others care what I choose to eat or not eat??

Answers:

They don't understand vegetarianism and veganism so they need to insult it. If they don't understand it and refuse to understand it they need to grasp at straws to attack us. They have no real ground to stand on so they will cling to lame and silly arguments that make little sense in real life. In many cases they whine about forcing lifestyles upon them. Which is the funniest thing in the world because their lifestyle forces animals to be their food, clothing, test subjects, entertainment, sports, and other uses and abuses.

Some care about what you eat or your lifestyle because they seek to profit from the exploitation of animals so obviously they want you to eat and drink and wear the animals products. Some do it because they couldn't figure out how to stay healthy being veg or vegan so they gave up quickly without getting help and are bitter about it. And as I stated earlier many just choose not too understand it or understand anything about animals and really honestly don't care about anyone except for themselves.

Others just like to troll you. People like Daisy and Deer Hunter try and go for the "I r educated me gots contruhdictshins to you" approach and others just go for the "eat meat derrr" approach. Either way they are fail trolls and should get some real knowledge and troll someone more worthwhile like the Scientologists or Westboro Baptist losers or teabaggers.

vegan because animals are not property

I have also been wondering the same question, i became a vegetarian when I started middle school and have now been one for 3 almost 4 years now and I have also always been pressured about it. I think because they really never gave a crap to even think about the thought of what really happens to the animals when they are killed, they just view it as, oh, that's some good meat. So when they see someone who doesn't eat meat they think that you're crazy. I don't really know for sure though, that's just my theory.

People like to pressure other people into doing things that THEY want them to do, it is a normal human process....we want everyone else to do what we want them to do.

I myself am not against vegetarians - you can eat what you want, you have your ideals and I have mine, that is fine.

However, the pressure works both ways and that is why a lot of meat eaters don't like vegetarians.

Some vegetarians are very vocal about their beliefs - to the point that they accuse meat eaters of murdering the animals themselves....it is outlandish some of the things I have heard coming out of the mouths of some vegetarians.

Because of pushy people like that, whenever anyone hears of someing being a vegetarian, they get angry at them and try to get them to eat meat.

You think people are against vegetarians? Try being a vegan and you'll get haters left and right, my friend. It's because it's intimidating and makes people feel bad about themselves bc they know what they eat had a conscious, emotions, and feelings and their conscious don't want you reminding them of that. Just your presence alone can remind them of that.
You will find that these haters make up dumb sh*t (anything besides you being a vegan) to hate on when you know deep down, it's bc your diet is intimidating. That is, assuming, they know of your diet.

Vegan

People don't hate vegetarians just for being vegetarians, they hate people who are preachy, pushy, sanctimonious, insulting (meat is murder) etc about their vegetarianism. Obviously not all vegetarians are like that but there are enough like that to make an impression on everyone. For example, PETA a group that even other vegetarians, vegans and animal rights activists dislike because of their extremist views, has taken it upon themselves to speak for all vegans and vegetarians. Any person who has heard of PETA's antics and then meets a vegan or vegetarians is likely to think "uh oh, not another one of those.."

Saying people are afraid off what they don't to know is wrong and often only argued by vegetarians themselves but no other. Vegetarianism and veganism has been around for decades. It is not "unknown", certainly not "scary".
It is also wrong that it is because omnivores are confronted by their own "guilt" about eating animals when meeting a vegetarian. That is also the same kind of bull crap that vegetarian preachers (the kind that people love to hate) like to use to further sanctify themselves. Meat eating has been around for thousands of years since th beginning of human existence. Factory farming has been around longer than any organized Western based vegetarian movement in existence. Billions of people eat meat daily and will never become vegetarians. There is no "guilt" to be confronted with.
Profit? Meat companies are already rich beyond any ones dreams. Vegetarian food companies on the other hand are still trying to get a toe hold share of the food industry. The meat companies are so rich that they have bought the biggest vegetarian food companies. so again just another conjured reason made up by a stupid fanatic who doesn't really know any better.

Vegetarians are better advised to look into a mirror first and see why instead of frantically looking around the room trying to pin blame on others.

Animals are property. Stop doing drugs, get a job and live with it.

Some people don't really care whether you're a vegetarian or not. They just like to argue. It doesn't really matter about what as long as they can pick up on something. It may not even be done in a bad spirit. It's just a habit with them.

Others see the fact that someone is a vegetarian, as a criticism of them for eating meat, even if you don't say anything to them about it. So if they can convince you to eat meat, they can feel comfortable about the fact that they eat meat.

Cognitive dissonance. If they're ok with your being vegetarian and not killing animals, then they'd have to confront their own involvement in animal cruelty.

I think it's probably because were so used to eating meat that we think theyre wierd because we are so used to it, i hope this resolves your question :]

Some people probably just want to share the foods they enjoy with you, and they also can't understand the choice to give up all meats. That kind of pressure will most likely continue.

Same as people who refuse to smoke weed. People see them as squares, and enjoy seeing if they can pressure them into folding

Experience

Some people try to change what they don't understand. I'm not a vegetarian, but I can imagine that it would annoying if people bothered me because I eat meat.

i think its awesome that your a vegetarian i am not against them

People fear what they do not understand

I've never had that happen to me.. maybe it's because I live in NYC and there are a lot of vegetarians and open-minded people here.. I'm also over 6'2", so some people may be too intimidated by my height to question my diet. But my advice to you is to stay away from those who can't even respect your dietary choice.. just let them wallow in their ignorance.

Vegetarian since birth

I don't care what others eat. I do care about lies and misrepresentations that veg*ns spout online. Like "avocados contain as much protein as a huge Tbone steak" and "you'll get cancer if you eat meat" or "being vegetarian saves 100 animals a year". Eat what you want. I do.

i dont have a problem with it, it's your diet... but i think it's pointless
Ex. Guy slaughter 10 cows for village of people, Guy slaughters 10 cows for village of people minus one vegetarian (same amount of meat used, not saving anything)

Why are many vegans against omnivores? I say eat what you want, don't push your beliefs, and don't condemn. With all of the hate for omnivores in this section its a wonder more people aren't against vegans.

People don't like other peoplr to be different; also, they don't believe that you are REALLY serious, its just a fad. Some vegetarians act so superiot to eaters of "dead animals"

Because you are missing out on the fat, blood and skin tissue from cows, swine, lamb and other mammals roaming around the earth ready to be digested by us carnivores.

Because most vegetarians are unhealthy. There really is no reason not to eat meat.
