considering becoming un-vegan because of hair loss?!

Question: Considering becoming un-vegan because of hair loss?
Ive been vegan for a couple of months now, and that combined with straightening my hair nearly 5 days a week (with hair protection spray!) has caused me to lose ALOT of my hair. its so thin now, should i stop and just start eating normal foods again? and can you suggest any shampoos, foods, etc.. that will help repair it? im already taking a multivitamin daily, and my nutritionist said im eating correctly.

Answers:

I've been vegan for years and I'm always getting complements on how THICK my hair is. It could be a couple of things:
1. Straightening your hair (especially daily) causes it to weaken and makes it brittle, which makes it fall out easier.
2. Are you getting enough protein and essential fatty acids? Consider eating more protein rich foods (beans, nuts, grains, green leafy veggies) and adding flaxseeds for omega-3's. Protein is especially important because its literally what your hair is made from.
3. GENES. This is the most important aspect in determining the thickness/style of your hair. Do your parents have thick or thin hair?

Firstly, what defines 'normal foods'? Is consuming the 'breast' milk from another species intended for their young 'normal' let alone healthy? Veganism doesn't cause hair loss/breakage. Your nutritionist also said you're eating correctly? Thus, it isn't your diet. Now go crawl back under your bridge...

Vegan.

Veganism doesn't cause hair loss if you eat healthy. Straightening your hair 5 days a week does. Maybe you should stop doing that instead since hair straightening isn't a necessity; its just for style and vanity.

Maybe you could stop straightening your hair instead. Have a talk with your hairdresser to see if a more natural style would suit you.

You should stop putting chemicals in your hair and stop messing with your hair so much. That is your problem and it is not the animals fault nor anyone's fault but your own and nobody else should have to suffer for it.

Basically I would go with a good healthy diet full of dark leafy greens, carrots, broccoli, beans, citrus fruits and whole grains. Make sure to get Vitamin A, C, E, B2, B12 (nutritional yeast is great for 12), B6, Biotin. You probably are eating fine but getting more of those vitamins in your diet is good because they can help maintain healthy hair. Try adding flax oil and flax seeds to your food as well.

Also try new shampoos and conditioners:

They have various different hair care products that are vegan and work to help various different problems with hair and they smell nice and work really great.

I also recommend Dr. Bronner's:
First wash with the soap (yes the soap, probably almond would be best) then use the hair conditioning products:

Make sure to also avoid excessive heat (cooler showers but more importantly no straighteners or irons or blowdryers) and chemicals in your hair as that is just asking for damaged hair. Simply wash your hair and condition it and towel dry or let it dry naturally. If you need to comb it comb it gently.

vegan with a nice thick full head of long luxurious hair.
