pescetarian...animal byproducts?!

Question: Pescetarian...animal byproducts?
ok so i have another question about this stuff. I decided to go pescetarian about a week ago, and im planning on making a switch to vegetarian after a while. My question is can i still use some animla byproducts? like geletin? because that stuff seems like its in everything:cake, jello, starburst, marshmellows... i mean the list goes on and on. can i still eat this stuff since im not vegan? like im just trying to avoid meat. Any help would be appreciated. and please dont get mad at me, im a newbie to this(:

If you are eating gelatin, you aren't a pescatarian either. Sorry. You are consuming a wide range of animals whose bones the gelatin is made of. The package has to say Vegetarian or Vegan gelatin substitute.

As to eating a more restricted diet you aren't. As a pescatarian you can still eat all the vegetables and other things that are Vegetarian and Vegan.

Think of it as an upside down pyramid. The small point is Vegan in this case. Next up is vegetarian which may allow eggs and dairy. On top of that is Pescatarian, then those who eat everything except certain meat or fish or poultry for religious, health or personal reasons then those who eat everything is the big part of it. As you climb the pyramid from Vegan you add more products.

Gelatin is NOT an animal by-product. Gelatin is made of the bones and connective tissue of animals, therefore they have to die in order for it to be acquired. Eggs and milk are by-products because an animal produces them, but doesn't die for them. Gelatin is not a by-product. Vegetarians do not consume gelatin. Pescetarians wouldn't either, because they only eat seafood and gelatin is derived from land animals.

Boiled tendons, ligaments, tissue, and parts of hooves creating that chewy/sticky like uhmm... idk the word.. substance? called gelatin.
It's not really in most cakes... but no, gelatin isn't even vegetarian.
Read labels, there's a lot of animal produts in things you may not even realize...

Gelatin is not vegetarian OR vegan. It's made from an animal rather than it being a byproduct like milk or eggs. It's made from the animal itself (connective tissues, skin, bones, etc).

Vegan

Hey! I've been a pescatarian for four years now. :)
It depends on what your goal is: a vegan doesn't eat milk, cheese, eggs, etc.
I don't like milk, so I have soymilk and almond milk- I love almond milk with a passion :D
Gelatin is from animal bone marrow, so the line goes a little fuzzy there.
Usually, I just avoid stuff with obvious amounts of gelatin, like starbursts and gummies.
Really, if you accidently ingest gelatin, or animal byproducts, it's not such a big deal. Accidents happen.
Good luck with everything!
