vegetarians: how to lose 5 pounds?!

Question: Vegetarians: how to lose 5 pounds?
hi there! i'm 13 years old, 5'4, and i weigh 114 pounds. lately i've started to becoming really really self conscious about how i look, so i want to change that. i've been a vegetarian for about four years now- dear god has it made a difference. i've balanced out much more, i'm more proportional now than i was a few years ago. i have a lot of extra fat under my chest and belly, and i want to tone down my arms and thighs. everybody compliments me on 'how skinny i am' or 'how thin i've looked lately' but i don't agree, i am fat. i go to the gym with my friends at least once a week for and hour and a half to two hours, but with my school schedule it's nearly impossible to squeeze in more time. i'm a strict vegetarian, and i'm not big on eggs/tomatoes/tofu.
how can i lose at least five pounds (7 is ideal) before this summer?
i'm looking for these areas:
-vegetarian meals, no tofu. i do eat quorn and morning star, boca, and those types of foods.
-working out about once or twice a week
-how to lose some chin fat, too, hahahaha
all help is greatly appreciated! thank you all!

Your current BMI for your height and weight based on the calculator linked below says that 114 puts you in the lower half of the "Normal" range. You can lose a few pounds if you want (5 pounds less would put you closer to the "Underweight" range), but keep in mind that at age 13, your body is still growing and will need the calories.

Stay fit and eat a healthy amount of calories, including good proteins and fats, but beware of developing an eating disorder just to appear "thin".

You're only 13 and sometimes we still have "baby fat" left in some areas (like the chin) but it does go away in a couple of years. I was always skinny but had chin fat, and when I turned 19 it was gone. That may be your case too. But you could do chin/neck stretches ( look alll the way up at the ceiling and back down repeatedly, while stretching the neck.

Anyway, what you could do is defffinately exercise more than you do now. Try at least 40 minutes per day/night... like power-walking, jumping jacks, dancing, etc. To tone down your arms and thighs, I would suggest power walking and walking uphill for long periods of time, and arms curls with small weights, and jogginr/running.

Foods: mixed nuts and dried berries/apricots. They're good. Lots of fruit. Carrots and dip. Bananas. Wheat toast with sugar free jam. Vegetable soup and minestrone soup by campbells. Steamed mixed vegetables.

Since you are still in your developmental stage expect body fluctuations.

Howeverrrr...to help you in your predicament, especially with your subcutaneous belly fat...Belly fat is eliminated through:

1. Exercise (consisting of cardio and weight training)
2. Healthy, low-calorie diet.

I'm in school too, taking high-honor courses, and its hard to find the extra time for exercise, but in order to have this work you must find the time! And if you can't, try to do some brisk walking for 10 minutes or so on the days you can't.

For the cardio part of exercising I recommend 3-4 alternating days per week of about 30-40 minutes coupled with a decent amount of weight training (of course you have to get the muscles sore) to replace the fat with muscle.

Your diet is perhaps the most important part of reaching your body ideal! Yes, it sounds cliche, but it is true. You need to take in lots of fruits and vegetables along with water! Remember, water is a fat burner! Also, choose whole unprocessed foods. Avoid canned foods (I know its difficult), pastries, too much butter etc. and consume those foods that have whole grains, such as 100% Whole Wheat Bread. ALSO, this is important...gear your diet to be high in protein and low in carbohydrates.

I wish you the best. I would photograph your body now, and along the way, and after about 12-weeks of the recommended exercise and diet you should be down about 26% on belly fat along with gaining 2 pounds of muscle.

You can do it! Just keep the motivation up! If you ever feel the determination wavering, remember why you were doing it in the first place - take a look at your body - and you'll find yourself getting motivated again!
