Questions about veganism?!

Question: Questions about veganism?
Okay so, I'm trying to become a vegan. Right now I am a lacto-veggie, I was a vegan for week a month ago but wasn't good at it that much. So, please answer these questions to expand my education of veganism.

-What do you eat a lot of?

-Be honest, where do YOU get your vitamin b12 and omega 3's at?

-Is there any nutrient I should concentrate on getting a lot of?

-How long did it take you to transition to veganism?

-Do you know any good recipes?

Thanks.

-What do you eat a lot of?

Honestly? Beans...they're cheap and yes I'm hispanic so there is always a pot of beans, sopa (fideo), arroz (rice), and salsa. Its yummy.

-Be honest, where do YOU get your vitamin b12 and omega 3's at?
Mainly, I get it from fortified cereal and sometimes I take a supplement for B12. For omega 3, I add flax seeds to my smoothies. Its also in olive and canola oil.

-Is there any nutrient I should concentrate on getting a lot of?
I concentrate on getting enough iron. At first my iron levels were always good just eating a variety but since I started donating blood plasma regularly for a few months....I've had to concentrate on that. Veggies have to consume 1.8 times more than the omnivores.

"Because of lower bio- availability of iron from a vegetarian diet, the recommended iron intakes for vegetarians are 1.8 times those of non vegetarians." American Dietetic Association

-How long did it take you to transition to veganism?
Overnight but I probably made a couple of mistakes in the beginning, I think. I don't really remember too much.

-Do you know any good recipes?
Yes, these are the easier, quick ones I've found.....

I am a common vegetarian (I don't eat ANY kind of meat, but I do eat milk, eggs, etc.)

-I eat a lot of foods like vegetables, more specifically roots; like potatoes and other kinds. BTW I eat what I want to eat, I want chocolate, I eat it, if I want soup I eat it.

-I get my vitamins from just what I feel like eating.

-I don't think you should concentrate on any nutrient, just eat what you like that doesn't harm you.

-It took me a good while to change, at first I didn't quite understand the concept and I mostly didn't eat meat, but I did eat hamburgers =P when I finally understood, I changed rapidly, and it was rather easy for me as I already didn't eat a lot of meat.

Good luck!

I'm a vegetarian

A vegan diet is unnatural, please eat a well balanced diet and forget about this vegan cult diet.

1. i eat a LOT of tofu
5. A really good vegan recipe is "nacho bake". try googling it. Its very tasty.

Kellogg's bran flakes has 100% daily value of b12

I have a pretty well balanced diet, because there is pretty much a vegan substitute for everything non vegan, and just make sure you get enough protein. For protein i tend to eat a lot of tofu ( its really good when marinated and stir fryed) and I love edamame! It's is essential that you take a multi vitamin, and it's really simple to find vegan ones online.
And the interesting thing about vitamin b12, is that not all b12 vitamins are made from animals, so if you do your research you can find food containing b12 vitamins that are vegan derived.
So be sure to get protein, b12, and iron! I know a lot of vegans who don't take a mega vitamin and end up being anemic, so just be careful.
I was a vegetarian for about 3months before I went vegan, but it took me months before i got all the rules down, and really became comfortable with my vegan lifestyle and diet.
I make some killer vegan cookies, heres the recipe

1 cup flour
1/4cup sugar (be sure it's vegan)
1/2tsp baking soda
1tsp baking powder
1/4tsp sea salt (make sure its grinded)
1/3 vegan chocolate chips (taste just like the real thing!)
MIX ALL THE DRY INGREDIENTS TOGETHER

1.5tsp vanilla extract
1/3cup pure maple syrup
1/4tsp black strap molasses
1/4cup canola oil
MIX ALL WET INGREDIENTS AND THEN COMBINE WITH DRY (mix with spoon; not beater)

Then cook this at 350 degrees for 10-15 min.

Good luck!! hope this helped!
