Vegetarians. I made a case for being a vegetarian and someone tells me I'm demented from the lack of B 12?!

Question: Vegetarians. I made a case for being a vegetarian and someone tells me I'm demented from the lack of B 12?
Vitamin production pollutes the world?
meat doesn't destroy ecosystems
we'd have larger stomachs for vegetation if we were meant to eat plants
Here's a quote "... Lets say for argument sake that you ARE taking vitamin supplements to keep up with the vitamins you are lacking. The pollution from those plants that manufacture the vitamins is affecting the entire world." and another "farmers will breed the same amount of chickens, pigs, cows they always have, the only difference is that the food will go to waste and/or spoil rather than someone eating."
How can you argue with logic like that?

Answers:

Most people eat supplements without ever realizing it. Animal feed is supplemented too. In fact, if you ate a whole food diet, eliminated the processed foods, and just included a vitamin B12, you would be consuming far fewer supplements than they are, and that B12 is produced by microbes. Vitamins D and sometimes A are added to milk. Salt is iodized. Flours and rice are fortified. Cereals have many added supplements. And even the vitamin B12 from beef is produced by supplementing the diet of beef cows with cobalt, which helps the bacteria in their guts produce vitamin B12 to prevent them from becoming deficient. Vitamin B12 is the only known vitamin to come exclusively from, in nature, microorganisms--and nowhere else. It doesn't originate in plants or animals. It only ends up in animals because they digest it after bacteria have produced it. If we were living out in nature, without the other advantages of modern agriculture, good hygiene, and water treatment, we would be picking up the tiny amount of vitamin B12 that we need-- just a few micrograms. It's all over the place. A microgram is 1/1,000,000th of a gram. I don't know about you, but I don't want to live out with the gorillas and eat my own poop and the poop of other animals.

The human body changes over time. After we reach our 50's, it can become harder to digest the vitamin B12 out of food. So, many doctors recommend that after you hit your 50's, you start taking a vitamin B12, no matter what else or who else you eat. It's just one of those things, like iodine, that everyone needs to be aware of.

The people who argue with you, or criticize you, aren't interested in the truth. They aren't interested in saving the environment from pollution, such as the massive pollution from intensive industrialized factory farming. They are only grasping at whatever they can think up to argue against your points. They have provided no evidence. You are not going to convince these people. Let them say what they want. The best thing you can do is to be intelligent and state the facts, based on evidence. They don't need any argument or any help to highlight that what they say is incorrect.

You can't argue with a person like that! ~ If you are eating a healthy well balanced diet then I'm sure your vitamin levels will be fine. Do you like Marmite? as it is full of vitamin B and is suitable for vegetarians too. We are all different and we all love to eat different foods and with so much variety none of us are going to be eating the same.I've never heard of being demented from lack of vitamin B before but I have heard of mad cow disease! ~ Enjoy what you eat and good health to you X

so? let them
you dont need eveyrone to agree with you to be who you are, let them be them, and you be you

i dont know anything about facts and figures, all i know is, i dont wanna eat animals, so i dont

if someone wants to argue idiotic logic that makes them feel better, its up to them

If you eat a well balanced vegan diet you won't be lacking in any vitamins or minerals so don't need to take supplements.

That's hogwash.
