What cant you eat as a vegetarian? ?!

Question: What cant you eat as a vegetarian? ?
I know the obvious meat but what do I need to look for in the ingredients? Also are there any pizza places that don't use meat sauce I don't know what they use maybe none of them do I just want to check

Answers:

A vegetarian does not eat meat, fish, seafood, poultry, cheeses that have animal rennet from calf stomachs(Kraft, Velveeta, Frito Lay's), gelatin(marshmallows, jello, frosted poptarts), soups that have animal stock in them(lookout for beef stock, chicken stock, etc.) french fries that have beef flavoring in them (McDonald's, Popeyes).

Pizza shops generally do not use meat sauce in their pizza. HOWEVER, the cheese the store uses could have enzymes that come from calf stomachs.

Papa John's and Little Caesar's makes pizza that is made with enzymes that comes from plants.

I'm not sure about Domino's.

Burgerking also has a BK Veggie burger, and Subway has a veggie patty sub.

Vegetarian

Most pizza places simply use the tomato based sauce. Just order a veggie pizza. As a vegetarian, you can eat whatever you want except for meat. Some Vegetarians eat fish (pescatarian). eggs, and wear leather clothing. Vegans are the strictist. Just eat what you want, typically you don't choose the vegetarian lifestyle to please someone else. So, simply please yourself and if you want to eat an egg or a piece of fish don't feel guilty about it.

There is no exact line that says one person is or isn't vegetarian.
The basic axiom is to avoid eating any animal (fish included) that has been slaughtered for food, that being said you will find vegetarians that may at say christmas just have one slice of chicken with their food. Other militant vegetarians will shoot them down calling them hypocrites, but as i said there is no exact line, where one sees eating meat in any circumstance wrong, another may see it as wasted food which is worse etc etc.

Anyways the big ones to look out for are gelatin that is used in many jellies & coloured sweets (you can just quickly glance for it on the back if you are unsure)
Rennet: apparently some enzyme from cows stomachs used to mature cheese :S, there are vegetarian rennet & it will state it on the packet.

Other than that i suppose stock-cubes may contain animal blood or something to thicken it, but rennet & gelatin are the two big big ones

There are places that don't use meat sauce but you need to ask. Asking for a vegetable pizza will get you vegetables on a pizza but asking for a vegetarian pizza should get you a vegetarian one [unless the shop is dishonest]

The first link I included has a list of what is called "Accidentally Vegan" products. They are mass market, not intended to be Vegan but are. You might find this list handy. Just click on the subject and a list of foods will come up. The next has some information and the 3rd is a comprehensive list of what you can't eat ingredient wise.

Reading the ingredients will become second nature to you.

I know there is a common mis-conception that vegetarian food is bland and tasteless, but that is not true. If cooked in the right way, you can please your senses and open up hitherto unknown culinary pleasures. Make sure you know the right recipes.

Check out this web-site: www.lettuce-eat.info

You'll find some new and unique vegetarian recipes.

Meat .. obviously !

Also :-
Anything that contains Rennet .. Cheese or example
Anything with Gelatine in it .. some Jams and any 'jelly like' puddings
Anything with Suet in it.
(but you can buy the 'vegetarian versions' of all of these .. look at the label)

Eggs are up to you .. but do think 'unborn chicken' ..
and don't wear Leather either.

Stick to whole foods and avoid fast food restaurants. Do a search on google on vegan restaurants.

There are no rules or regulations, do what you want.
