Is being Vegan healthy?!

Question: Is being Vegan healthy?
I am pondering the thought of being vegan for a little longer than a month (40 days) for lent. I probably won't continue to be vegan but will eat some dishes and learn some facts. I've heard it being healthy and unhealthy. Is it unhealthy if I took a multi vitamin so I have enough protein?

A vegan diet is very healthy.

The meat industry have done a good job at brainwashing people into believing a vegan diet is unhealthy and that you need meat to live a healthy life.

A meat diet kills millions of people every year and causes several deadly diseases.

A vegan diet lowers your risk of getting a number of cancers along with other diseases.

Its obvious which diet is the healthiest.

No. For one thing there is a vitamin your body needs in a tiny amount called selenium that you can not get without animal products. I have known many vegans and most of them have had all kinds of health problems and gotten way too thin. The whole idea that meat is bad for you is a lie. We need all 4 food groups. Veganism cuts out way too many important things in a healthy diet. Most of the people I've known who were vegan had to quit. Those that have not continue to have health issues and refuse to make the connection that their diet is the reason they are sick.

Personal experience from observing the many vegans I know.

It's an issue of B-vitamins and proteins, it's healthy only if you are healthy and smart about it. It means eating foods like beans and legumes to get the vitamins from meat that you are missing. While everyone should take a multivitamin anyway, you could try getting a whey-powder or protein supplement if you can't get your proteins and Bs from other sources!

Depends on who you asks. Obviously there are some meat eaters in this section(and i dont know why?) and they will tell you that being vegan or vegetarian is not healthy.

But if you ask an healthy & happy Vegan they will say yes it is healthy.
Also think about this.. In just America, how many of the unhealthy or overweight ppl are vegan? ..Yeah, Not that many...

Yes it is healthy. My advice is that you connect with other vegans through blogs and facebook to get any answers, advice etc. I am vegan - healthy and extremely happy with it. The link to Indian Vegan below will answer heaps of your questions and also put you in touch with someone who knows a lot about this issue.

Indian and Mexican cuisine are good for starting off with Veganism.

Have you ever seen a fat Vegan? You can at least try it out. I think the food's delicious although I'm a Vegetarian. Google some Vegan restaurants and try to broaden your horizons about it. There's countless websites where you can see how to get your protein. That's what people say to try to convince you NOT to be Vegan. Truth is, you don't need that much protein.

Yes. Also add tea to your daily menu.

Multi Vitains don't contain protein, so that won't help you there.

Being a Vegan CAN be healthy, but require a lot of work to ensure that your body is getting the nutrients it needs. Meats contain many things that your body needs, so it is important to get them from another source if you stop eating meat. Plus meat tastes really, really good, so that alone is enough for me to eat it.
