Vegans, please answer this (and don't take this the wrong way please)?!

Question: Vegans, please answer this (and don't take this the wrong way please)?
I've recently had a talk with 3 people at different times. All of them were vegan and all said in some way or another that humans should be wiped off the face of this planet and let another animal take over. I've met all of these people on the internet. Are they trolls (People that go on the internet to upset a group of people)? Do real vegans believe that? I know 3 isn't enough to represent all vegans - That's why I'm openly asking all vegans that see this right now.

Again, please don't take this the wrong way. The only thing I know about veganism is that you don't eat meat and eggs and that you don't wear leather. I also know that you have good reasoning for being a vegan.

All I want to know is if some vegans really hate the human species.

Answers:

I certainly don't! They may very well be trolls, or maybe just stressed out vegans wanting to vent. I'm sure there are a few fanatics out there who think that way, but most definitely don't.

I'll admit, I think mankind has done some stupid things in the past, but we're not all bad. I think saying that humans should be wiped out is incredibly arrogant; it's like saying that you are the only person worthy of life. I take issue with that.

I'm not a vegan, I'm a committed omnivore, but I can tell.you that not all vegans are like what you describe. As with any group of people, there are nice ones and mean ones. There are many openminded and friendly vegans and vegetarians that hate nobody and who love humanity with all their hearts. Don't let unpleasant people get you down!

I'm sorry. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I personally am not vegan but I am good friends with several people who are vegan and none of them are haters of the human species. Simply because they choose to refrain from eating meat either for political or health reasons does not equate with hating the human race. Please be more discriminating when listening to these troll like statements.

Some PEOPLE really hate the human species, vegan or not. I would say vegans are more likely to critically analyze humans' role in our current ecological armageddon and some transfer this into hatred of the human race. Certainly not all vegans though.

Vegan with a love/hate relationship with the human race.

I'm vegan and I don't know anyone who thinks that.

There is no vegan governing body. It is not an organized religion, so unlike some religious groups that think humans will face some kind of judgement day where we will all be wiped off the face of the earth for our sins, each vegan can have their own opinion.

No, I'm a vegan who grew up in a house of people who eat so, so much animal product a day... I still care for them. I wouldnt wish death on them.
I don't think even PETA is wishing for people do get wipped off the face of the earth. And they're overly dramatic about protecting animals.

I never heard of that. I'd walk away slowly and never talk to them again.
They're weird.

Funny thing is , mankind IS kind of f**king up the planet...but I'd like to wipe all the stupid people off the face of it, not all of them.
Not me anyway, I like life. YOu get haters in any environment.
I eat a certain way, but I'll never label myself in the world as a (insert word here) or anything else.

I've never heard a vegan say that,
though I've heard plenty of people, vegan, vegetarian, and omnivore alike,
remark that it would be far better for the planet and the creatures living here if humans were to disappear, or had never evolved in the first place

LOL I'm vegetarian, but i know thats soo not true lol . xD

common sense and a couple of friends who are vegan and vegatrian

Trollin'.

U jelly?

I am a vegan and as far as I am concerned, ANIMAL RIGHTS is my priority, I have no interest in human rights at all and I cannot give a **** what happens to the ones who contribute in any way towards animal abuse and cruelty. There will always be evil in the world as long as we occupy this earth so it would be a much better place if we weren't here, then the earth could live naturally. Most vegans I know hate the human species yes, but what can you expect?? There are still some vegans who partly support human rights, I have no idea why! If only vegans occupied this earth, it would be so much better. So no, I doubt if the vegans you spoke to are trolls, they are just passionate to their cause.

I've never heard anyone say humans should be wiped out, but was it a religious forum? (lol) Religious nuts can be all kinds of crazy.

What I do hear and advocate for myself is a reduction in the number of humans being born through better family planning. Even David Attenborough has stated as much. Basically our planet can support a limited number of organisms. Because humans are a large species (known as megafauna) we have high energy requirements and that means we need to consume lots of foods to support ourselves.

Right now there are almost 7 billion of us and this is projected to reach 9 billion by 2050. No other megafaunal species numbers anywhere near this amount, and we are using about half of all the energy produced on land for ourselves while the other 5 million or so terrestrial species shares the remaining 50%. The effect on ecosystems has been devastating, and there are now more species becoming extinct than at any time since the last mass extinction event which wiped out dinosaurs 65 million years ago. (Barnosky et al., (2011). Has the Earth’s sixth mass extinction already arrived? Nature Volume: 471, Pages:51–57 http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v47… ). We are the first species in history to cause a mass extinction!

So the idea is if more people abstained from having children, and those who do have them choose to have fewer children; we could offset these effects by reducing the pressure on our ecosystems to provide all these foods, fuels, building materials etc. Studies show that countries where women are better educated have lower birth rates so the best strategy is to educate women and improve family planning in developing nations. Sadly most of the aid organisations in these countries are funded and/or directly operated by religions so the people are being fed subjective information about contraception and abortion and not getting all the options they deserve.

That is a common sentiment of vegans.
Many of the vegans here on yahoo answers have expressed their desires for humans to go extinct. Others have limited these negative feelings to non-vegans or hunters.

* Stella22 is a perfect example of the type of vegan being discussed here, and her answer has received several thumbs up, while my correct answer has received mostly thumbs down.

Vegan logic continues to confound me.
