Vegetarians who won't cook someone a meal with meat?!

Question: Vegetarians who won't cook someone a meal with meat?
I've been a vegetarian for about 12 years and I still get wound up by people who accuse vegetarians of not cooking for non-vegetarians. I cook meat for my family, I have no qualms about handling raw meat and carving cooked meat. My dogs eat meat, I handle and cook meat for them and recently skinned two dead rabbits for them, which I admit to finding unpleasant and I did have to put a bag over their heads. One rabbit was a fresh roadkill, and the other was from a friend. The most horrific thing was when I came to remove the cooked meat from the bones I found very early stages of development of 4 babies in the roadkill rabbit and that upset me a lot, although I guess that makes me a hypocrite? But seriously, I choose not to eat meat but other people don't and it's not my business if they want to eat meat.

Answers:

I'm a vegan and I don't cook meat for others because it grosses me out. I see meat as dead body parts, and just like I wouldn't want to handle a dead person's arm or leg, I don't want to handle an animal's either.

If someone wants to eat meat because it *doesn't* gross them out, then they should go ahead and do whatever they want. If they're coming over to MY house, however, they should expect a vegan dinner. If they don't want a vegan dinner, they should bring their own meat, eat before they come or not come at all. My house, my rules, I guess you could say.

Wow! If I wasn't a vegetarian before, I would be now, after reading your post.

Cooking meat really disgusts me, but I do on occasion boil a few marrow bones for my dogs. I let other people cook meat with my cookware if they want to eat meat at my house.

But even I know you need to gut the animals before you cook them, not after. Not that if would have made a difference in the horrific-ness of the thing, and I realize it's just for the dogs, but still.

I don't have anything against non-vegetarians but I'm not going to cook meat for them! I think its gross to handle. Why would I buy meat and make it to serve to other people? I consider that almost as bad as me eating it. I'm still supporting the meat business by buying it, thats ridiculous! I don't care if my family wants to buy meat and cook it themselves but I'm not about to do that lol

Do you have a question? Guess not. But I do.

Why didn't you gut the rabbits before cooking? That's a bit weird. There would have been feces cooked in with the meat, won't that be a health risk for your dogs? If you do that with meat for humans it can give them E.coli infections which can kill them. I don't know much about it but I have seen dogs eat a whole rabbit carcass but the colon which contains the faeces. Not sure how much they'd enjoy eating it cooke through their food...

You are a vegetarian and are used to eating and cooking non-meat meals. It is your energy and effort going into each meal, so why should you do anything extra for someone else? Vegetarian cooking takes more creativity, especially if you recently switched, so do what you are used to and tell everyone who thinks otherwise where the nearest McDonald's is

I'm the same. I'm a vegan but will cook non-vegan, meals with meat for other people. My boyfriend is a meat eater and for the most part he's happy with whatever I make for myself however if he wants like a porkchop or something I'll make it for him.

I have my beliefs and I'm not here to enforce them upon other people.

I could care less what a vegetarian cooks or doesn't cook. I can cook my own meals, and would gladly cook a vegetarian meal for a vegetarian friend. If they wouldn't do the same for me they wouldn't be my friend, I have PLENTY of other friends. ALL races, cultures, and types of foods are welcome in my home.

6 years of vegetarianism, and I don't have any problem cooking my boyfriend or my father meat. It's not the most pleasant thing on Earth, and it certainly doesn't smell as good as it did 6 years ago. I think it's just being over-sensitive to not cook meat.

Trolldom is a delicate art. "4 babies in the roadkill rabbit" is overkill.

I appreciate you.
