How can u tell when white bulk mushrooms go bad?!

Question: How can u tell when white bulk mushrooms go bad?
Had mushrooms in the fridge for a week. Can I still use them

Answers:

If they are very dark and squishy and soggy feeling then they arent good, and if they smell really bad.

in the fridge a week? Gross.
They're ok to cook with, but mushrooms have a VERY short shelf life if you want them fresh and raw.
I eat them raw- they have to be hard and crunchy.
If you can squeeze them like hard marshmallows- they're not fresh. They're still OK, but horrible if you eat them raw.
They may not be soggy yet, but they WILL be soft. And good fresh mushrooms should be as hard and crisp as a firm cherry- not a soft cherry.

Mushrooms last a long time, but after a day they go soft and are not fresh, but fine for cooking.

If your frig is cold and they were in the dark, they should be edible for quite a while.
In fact, Jacques Pepin, well-respected chef and teacher, said once** that he always tries to get the oldest mushrooms when he shops...he feels they have the most flavor. Of course, that's for cooking...not for eating raw since the texture would be different.

**on one episode of his show More Fast Food My Way (probably one of these that has mushrooms in one of the recipes):
