Why are people so ignorant about gluten?!
Answers:
Some people are ignorant in some stuff, some in other stuff. What you know a lot about many people will ignore and what they know a lot about you'll ignore, if you want them to stop being ignorant about it, enlighten them :)
Actually people are not ignorant by nature. Everybody is born without knowledge, but we all gain it through life experiences, our environment. Sadly, in America the big farms, corn producers, etc. have a mission to try to misinform us innocent consumers. They put ads, commercials, even TV shows to try to lie about how gluten, grains, vegetables, etc are unhealthy and makes us fat. I saw a TV program one night that actually made me mad... and I'm an easy going relaxed guy. That show said how corn fed meat and fast food does not contribute to health issues and instead place all the blame on grains. I swear I wanted to sue the producer of that pure lie lol. So people become ignorant not by their lack of knowledge, but rather what they choose to believe depending on the information they were fed on when growing up. Also has a lot to do with how they eat growing up.
Actually, research shows that people who have not been diagnosed with gluten intolerance often feel better when they give up gluten, as they often do when a household gives it up after a member becomes seriously ill with celiac.
I used to eat lots of wheat. I even made my own seitan. I would never have developed symptoms of gluten intolerance if I had not eaten so much gluten. ∠°)
Same reason they are ignorant about second hand smoke and perfumes and deodorants. If it doesn't affect them they don't give a darn that it's killing someone else. Excuse me I have a friend that is gluten intolerant and other people are too. You can eat what's healthy for YOU, you cannont extrapolate that to it does not hurt others.
Actually I thought you were going to say gluten is bad, and I was going to say I don't have gluten intolerance and it's fine for most people, so I guess I agree wth you.
I'm not ignorant about gluten. I just don't like the way it acts in certain foods when i can actually feel or observe the gluten in it. Especially in some ice creams.
