Question: I dont have enough money for food; what should I do?
Answers:

I hope that list of problems isn't real. Looks awful. For anyone who reads this question and is seriously looking for food, please refer to my previous answer. See a doctor for your other problems. If you're in college, seek out the student services that are offered there, to see if they can refer you to help or help you out with a meal program at the school.

"Hello. There's plenty of food in the world. The problem for you is money, which is an artificial problem-- created by other people. So don't let money control or stop you from eating. There are many food resources available. Don't give up. As long as there is abundance, you have a right to food. If you're hungry enough, you'll learn to eat a wider variety of foods.

First, you can use what money you do have and be selective about what you buy. Make a food budget and shop for foods that fit into your budget. Rice and beans are great cheap fillers to start with. Stay away from most boxed, processed foods which don't give you much for the money.

Next, consider markets that are not where you usually shop. If you eat bread, in my area there is a place that sells day-old bread that's taken off all the grocery store shelves. It's extremely cheap. Some days you can buy a $3-4 loaf of bread for 50 cents. This is a dirty secret of the restaurant business-- Many restaurants in my area buy their bread here! The bread is just as good, and it can be frozen if you have a freezer. Also, hit your local farmers market or produce stand. You may be able to pick up fruits and vegetables very cheap if you hit it right and talk to the owner. I have gotten things like old tomatoes and overripe bananas for almost free from these places. With a little creativity, these can be turned into amazing salsa, sauces, soup, banana bread,

Some communities have a community garden where you can pick food and eat it for free. You're not going to find this everywhere, but you might in some places. You could also start a small garden yourself when the season rolls around, to supplement your food. This can even be done in boxes on a patio.

If you belong to a church, or even if you do not, this could be a good place to ask about what resources are available because people often go here in search of resources when they need help.

Talk to your grocery store manager about what resources might be available from there for free or very low cost to you.

Call your local government to see what resources may be available to you.

Find your local Food Not Bombs organization, which gives out free vegan meals to people in need. http://www.foodnotbombs.net/ "

Fortunately, you live in a country that's done a lot to ensure people don't have to go hungry even if they don't have any money. It's extremely easy to find food shelters or contact the government to receive food stamps and help with finding a job for a steadier income. If you are in immediate need of assistance you can call your local police department and they will help you also.

I feel sorry for you I do, but people in hardships such as yourself, its really hard to remain a vegan with so little money and choice. Personally I think you have to do what you can to survive and if that means you have to eat what you can get then so be it. I think you should start introducing meat into your diet and stop being a vegan - at least until you could earn more money to live a vegan lifestyle. The meat will boost your energy levels too with fats, iron and protein so it will help with the dizzy spells...

i was once poor and we used to eat spam a lot.was well tasty!!

You can buy dried beans and brown rice for about $1.50 a pound, or less if you can find a store that sells in bulk. A pound will make about 15 servings, maybe seven meals. Don't buy the name brands, go generic.

Buy plain oatmeal for breakfast. Again, buy in bulk or the store brand.

Then spend the rest of the money on vegetables. I find that the store brand frozen vegetables are a good deal. Fresh may seem cheaper initially, but there's a lot of waste, and the frozen don't spoil as quickly. Fresh onions and potatoes are much cheaper, though.

And see a doctor, because your symptoms are likely your disease, not your diet.

First of all, grab yer nuts and quit whining.

Alright, is your stupid diet so important that you'll whine and starve before eating meat? Who the **** told you meat was bad? Did it ever occur to you that nothing good ever got accomplished without meat? Ever met a vegan marine? No, you need testosterone, which you get when you eat meat. Ramen is bad for you, but for a different reason than what you think. However, being poor, ramen is an excellent idea. When I'm poor, it's soup for months.
