I really want to become a vegetarian?!

Question: I really want to become a vegetarian?
I really want to try to become a vegetarian, I really want to be healthy eat more vegetables and just stop eating meat because it's just not nice knowing that these animals died in terror, in sadness and in pain. Theres just one thing is it okay to eat fish/sea food? Because I really love fish/seafood, also what are some good vegetarian dishes

Answers:

Fish and sea animals are not considered vegetarian fare, but you would be considered a pescatarian if that was the only meat you ate. As for recipes, search the web for vegetarian food blogs, and check your local library for vegetarian cookbooks (they should be around the 641.5636 area under the Dewey Decimal System.)

There are different kinds of vegetarians. You need to find whats right for you. Eating less meat is good for your health and the environment. Some people eat eggs and dairy. Some don't. Some people start off eating eggs dairy and seafood then slowly transition into complete veganism http://kidshealth.org/teen/food_fitness/…
I highly recommend the book "The Kind Diet" by Alicia Silverstone. Also browse around the internet and get allot of different information from different sources. If you give up meat and still eat seafood and dairy you are still eating much healthier and helping the environment. I would suggest you phase meat out right away, but phase out seafood when you feel more comfortable doing that. Also keep in mind more environmentally friendly fish and seafood when making those choices. http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=1521

I became a vegetarian for a while and now I am starting to eat more meat. I wouldn't eat red meat, I would just eat chicken, turkey, ham etc. I always LOVED animals and didn't want to eat their dead body meat, but your body does need some sort of protein in your body to function correctly. But you could eat fish/seafood. That's great! That's protein and fish so go ahead and eat that. That's a good source of protein right there.

My experience

Eating fish and seafood is not vegetarian. Pasta is always nummy. You can make tacos with sauteed tofu marinated in lime juice, chili pepper, salt, black pepper. Curry is usually vegetarian. Curried noodles is a good dish. A traditional rice and beans dish is always great. There are many vegetarian dishes, and most non-veg dishes can be translated to vegetarian just by substituting ingredients.

Vegetarians dont eat fish or sea food because they are animals that feel pain and have been killed to arrive on your plate. All nutrients that you need for good health can be found in plant based foods. If you eat a well balanced vegetarian diet then you will not need supplements and will not become ill or undernourished. If you have a medical problem see your doctor.

So you don't want to eat animals from slaughterhouse because of the way they live and die, but eating fish who have hooks go through their mouths and suffocate to death is okay? Yeah that makes sense...
Vegetarians do not eat any animals. Fish are animals.

vegan :D

A lot of people start by just not eating meat anymore; there are a lot of no-meat-fish eaters. They are not vegetarians, but it's still a lot better than eating meat.

No, it's not OK if you want to be a vegetarian. Fish are animals and considered meat if you want to eat them.

Become a pescetarian (only eats fish no meat)

vegetarians DO NOT eat sea food, however pescatarians do.

i asked the same question if i should but they all said i shiouldnt yet so i dont think you should

Vegetarians don't eat meat. Fish are meat. So, no, you can't be vegetarian and eat fish/seafood. People who only eat fish meat are called pescetarians. Perhaps you should call yourself a pescetarian?

But you are wrong about animals being slaughtered for food dieing in "terror, in sadness and in pain." Ellie Kreiger, of the Food Network, visited a slaugherhouse and here's what she had to say about the actual killing:

"The last thing I saw was the actual harvest or killing. To be sure, it is not a pleasurable thing to witness in general, but if you eat meat, the simple fact is an animal is sacrificed for your nourishment, a reality we are all too removed from in modern society. The trick is to do it humanely, and this is where I was most impressed. The system Cargill uses was developed in part by Dr. Temple Grandin, the autistic animal scientist who, with her heightened sensitivity, was able to pinpoint specific ways to keep cows stress-free throughout the process (there is an award winning HBO film about her starring Claire Danes.) The whole environment is kept purposefully calm, with no loud noises or bright lights. Before they realize what is going on the cows are hit precisely on the head, given a concussion so they are rendered senseless, then their throats are cut and their blood is drained. The whole thing takes roughly a minute. I watched intently as the cows moved through and noticed no shred of panic or unease."

And during her week of veganism, Oprah told us all that animals were not tortured when they were killed. Oprah is no friend of the meat industry, yet she told the truth.

Lastly, animals do die in terror as large tractors and farming equipment rolls over them in the fields. Excerpt from the link below:

"Animals of the field are killed by several factors, including:

1. Tractors and farm implements run over them.
2. Plows and cultivators destroy underground burrows and kill animals.
3. Removal of the crops (harvest) removes ground cover allowing animals on the surface to be killed by predators.
4. Application of pesticides.

So, every time the tractor goes through the field to plow, disc, cultivate, apply fertilizer and/or pesticide, harvest, etc., animals are killed. And, intensive agriculture such as corn and soybeans (products central to a vegan diet) kills far more animals of the field than would extensive agriculture like forage production, particularly if the forage was harvested by ruminant animals instead of machines. So perhaps fewer animals would be killed by producing beef, lamb, and dairy products for humans to eat instead of the vegan diet envisioned by Regan."

I used to be a vegetarian myself. It wasn't a big deal, but I always felt tired an weak because I wasn't getting enough protein. My doctor said because I'm still in my teen tears, I must eat meat, even though I didn't want to. I know how horrible the slaughterhouses are, and it sickens me every day to think about it, but if you are under 18. I wouldn't reccommend being a vegetarian. It doesn't really make you lose weight, and you have to keep taking protein pills and it's really frustrating.

I hope you make the best descision!
Good luck(:
