What are some ways to eat hummus, and is it good for you?!

Question: What are some ways to eat hummus, and is it good for you?
Answers:

It's very good for you, especially if you make your own hummus. If calories or sodium or something is a concern, make your own hummus. Either way though it's a good source of protein and iron and fiber and other things.

A very traditional way of eating hummus is with flatbread or pitas or basically Mediterranean foods. I've heard of it being used as a dip for vegetables or a spread for sandwiches. My husband likes to put it on flour tortillas.

Hummus is great for you - a good source of healthy fat (if made with extra virgin olive oil) and protein.

Here's an easy recipe:

Ingredients

1 cup canned garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained, rinsed

1/8 cup tahini

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 pinch paprika

1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil

1 tablespoon water

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Cooking Instructions

Place the garbanzo beans, tahini, garlic, salt, garlic powder, and paprika into a blender. Add olive oil, water, lemon juice, and cilantro. Puree until smooth. Serve.

Hummus is so good for you. It's high in protein and zinc among other things. I like it the usual way with crackers and such. It's also good with veggies, on a sandwich, in a wrap or tossed with pasta. If you make your own you can play with the flavors like adding roasted red peppers, olives, basil or jalapeno or any combination. It's definitely a staple in my home!

it's really healthy. The best way is to put it in a circular movement on a small round plate, add paprika and olive oil, add hummus grains and parsley on top, and then wipe a pitta in it. Like this:

Though I have to say I heard the hummus outside the middle east isn't good. Personally I only like hummus from restaurants, hummus bought in supermarkets is disgusting to my taste. Full of preservatives.

traditionally on pita bread

you can also dip chips and veggies in it
you can so use it as a dressing on sandwitches and burgers

it is VERY healthy, being high in protien, and low in fat.

I like hummus on jacket potatoes and melted on pasta. I add it to sandwiches and fill pitta bread with salad and hummus. You can also use hummus as a dip for bread sticks and vegetables.

Yes, it is good for you because of the chickpeas. It tastes good on pita bread and ritz crackers (original) for me.

Taste and Experience

I loooove hummus, and like anything else, moderation is the key. I usually eat it on pita chips, crackers, or bagels. :)

On toast.
In a sandwich with tomato or grated carrot or whatever you want.
On jacket potato.
On rice cakes, oatcakes, or ryvitas.
Use it as a dip.

I think its pretty good for you.

the only way to eat hummus is by putting it in your mouth
