it might just be your water weight. it will regulate soon. your body is just getting used to the new diet.

Have to agree with exsft, your body is reacting normal to the change also you may not be eating properly as you should not be loosing weight that fast. The body is protecting itself, it is keeping the fat to protect the organs so the muscle tissue depletes first leaving you with this belly.

It sounds like you have not got a good enough diet plan, your body is put in shock so reacting in this way, the same way it reacts to starvation. Also it could mean other things, it is not uncommon that people's individual bodies do not suit vegetarian diets same they may not suit omnivore diet that they do need meat or not. There is a case where a man who was vegetarian due to culture reasons had a belly like you describe and he also suffered from chronic high blood pressure which made him very very ill. He changed to a diet that included meat which improved his health dramatically. It turned out he had a different blood type to his fellow people, a blood type dating back to first man that's diet is based on meat, veg, pulses and seeds and that is O. You will find "Eat for your blood type" by Dr Peter J D Adamo an interesting read it helped my father quite a bit.

You need to take a good look into your diet, something is not right. It has nothing to do with your previous diet of meat. Unless you are overweight and exercising a lot so dramatic weight loss is common then levels out BUT what you describe is not. Having a healthy omnivore diet is not unhealthy, a bad vegetarian diet can just be as bad as an unhealthy omnivore one, do not be fooled thinking being vegetation somehow makes you more healthy!!

My guess is you lost muscle weight and are retaining fat. Muscle is more dense than fat meaning muscle will weigh more than fat of the same size.
But since you went vegetarian and cut out your general calorie intake, but not your fat intake so your body is now storing fat for future use because it is "reacting " to calorie depletion. Fat tends to accumulate around the middle.

You probably don't have a balanced diet. Vegetarian yes, balanced, no.

Carbs are typically held in the middle area so if you started eating a lot of carbs that could be affecting you although it would be surprising that it would happen so soon. Also, you could be taking in too much salt and retaining water. If you are taking in too much of either of these (maybe in a subconsious attempt to compensate since your body is adjusting to life without meat) this could be part of your problem. Make note of this for a while and if you think this could be causing part of your problems then try to cut down and add in more raw fruits and veggies for a bit and see if that does the trick. When I start having this problem I try to go a day or two with no real heavy food and nothing high in salt while drinking lots of water, that always does the trick!

The answer lies in the fact that you once ate meat. You see, when switching to a purely vegetarian diet, any residual meat products in your system (intestine, stomach etc.) will become perturbed at your decision and mount a counter attack. This creates tension between the meat & veg, the swelling comes from the vegetables in your stomach not wanting anything to do with the meat anymore and so they find somewhere else to sit, out of sight from the increasingly bitter beef/chicken/other.

Maybe too many carbohydrates, pasta or bread maybe. Try eating no carbs in the morning for breakfast (but make sure you do have a breakfast) and eating less for lunch and dinner.

Bloating maybe? Are you eating a load of foods that cause bloating? What are you eating lots of that you didn't before that may be causing you problems?

not exercising :)

weird. maybe you have a tumor...or pregnant? :O
