Why do foreign students get taught incorrect English?!
If anybody replying is a teacher in a foreign country or has done before, do you teach them the correct versions?
And anyone replying don't babble on about they are both correct, only 1 version of English is correct!
Answers:
It depends on the school and the country,. Some countries prefer students to learn British English, while others prefer American English. ESL courses are taught in one or the other. I taught in several foreign countries and used the materials given to me by the schools. Some were British; some were American. I discussed differences between the two with intermediate and advanced students.
Because the teachers are under-qualified meaning that they teach crap. English, is my second language - and trust me my first 3 English teachers taught me that and apple is pronounced 'aaiipple'
People often think that the teacher knows best and learn it off them,
and yes only 1 version of English is correct!
:D
me, myself and I
If you're in the US, then you learn American English.
If you're in Britain, then you learn British English.
If your school takes its methods and texts from the US, then it will teach American English.
If your school takes its methods and texts from England, then it will teach British English.
If you're going to say that American English is wrong, you basically told every English teacher in the US that you know English better than them. Riiiight.
The same is true for Spanish. If you're in Mexico, then you learn Mexican Spanish. If you're in Spain, then you learn Spanish Spanish. The two are completely different. Are you going to go tell Mexico that they're doing it wrong?
Same thing with Portugese.

Probably because American English is more popular then English English, America is a bigger country and has more people.
Wrong there are two spelling systems and it is only wrong to mix them ie neighbour and colour
not neighbour and color or harbor and colour
If only one version of English is correct, then I guess Shakespeare didn't know how to speak English!
In my country they teach English not American English:).
