Why do vegetarians eat fish?!
Why do vegetarians eat fish?
Answers:
I know many vegetarians, including my wife. No one of them eat fish.
Have no idea however vegans do not eat fish.
Because fish aren't animals. They are plants!
They dont. Someone who eats fish is NOT a vegetarian.
I think they think it isnt meat so it doesnt count, or maybe they think fish dont have feelings so again it is ok to eat it.
True vegetarians do not. Some poeple who call themselves vegetarians may choose to eat fish anyway. or just white meat.
Some vegetarians reject all animal products, and dont even eat eggs or milk products.
I guess you can call yourself anything you want.
They don't. I don't eat meat, but I do eat fish, but I don't call myself a vegetarian. I just say I'm don't eat meat or I'm a non-meat eater. Genuine vegetarians do not eat fish, or wear leather or have anything with animal byproducts in them, such as certain wines, sweets, etc.
True vegetarians do not/ will not eat any animal flesh, including a fish.
I don't think that veggies who eat fish are true vegetarians but I think they do it because it would seem that the killing of fish is less sadistic and torturous than that of battery hens, cows etc etc. However that's not to say that fish don't suffer!
This question gets asked loads on here. A person who eats fish is not a vegetarian. Those who do and call themselves one don't understand the meaning of the term vegetarian.
True vegetarians dont eat fish. The fish eating mob have another name - something to do with piscies, cant quite remember.
Did you know that there is only one species that is truly carnvivore?
Humans on the whole are omnivores as they eat meat and veggies..............ok i'll stop waffling now..............
They don't.
There are meat eaters who restrict thier diet to fish, veggies and fruit. These are not vegetarians
The Vegetarian Society is recognised as the Worlds leading expert on vegetarianism and this is what they have to say on the definition:
"A vegetarian is someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with or without the use of dairy products and eggs (preferably free-range).
A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products such as gelatine or animal fats."
Anyone who eats fish and calls themselves a veggie is wrong. its as simple as tha. They shouldn't use the word vegetarian just because they can't be bothered to use the correct words, it confuses the issues for everyone and does vegetariansm an injustice.
Eat as much fish as you like, just don't call yourself a veggie
wafflebox gets my vote. This is the first person I've seen on here that is happy to say the only meat they eat is fish and not call themselves a veggie. Thanks for that, its nice to see someone who is honest with themselves and us
and i see below that the "College Health class and text book" also talks about veggie fisheaters.....oh dear, i guess I'll have to write to the author of that book now, can someone send me thier details, ta ?
I'm vegetarian and eat no fish or even shellfish. Some however do and are more properly classed as demi-veg. I eat eggs and dairy which makes me ovo-lacto veg.
The main thing is I think to make your choice and then stick to it.
There are different levels of commitment to vegitatianism and it depends on why they are vegitarian. Some are for political reasons, some are moral (don't kill animals), and some just for health reasons. If you don't see fish as being sentient, then it might be moral to eat fish, and if you are just veg for health reasons, then you might eat fish because it is good for you (except now, with pollution getting so bad, there could be a problem with mercury poisoning).
(They are not vegetarians, they just don't eat red meat, like me!)
then you have Vegans , they do not eat anything animal ( that also means eggs)
then there are Vegans that do not eat mushrooms, because it is a fungi.
Actually, there are several classes of vegetarianism, be it for ethical, economic, personal, health, cultural, or religious reasons. Vegetarianism provides a superb alternative to our high-fat, high calorie, meat-based diets. But without proper information and food choices, vegetarians can also develop serious dietary problems.
Vegans, or strict vegetarians avoid all foods of animal origin, including all dairy products and eggs.
Lacto-vegetarians eat dairy products but avoid flesh foods.
Ovo-vegetarians add eggs to their diet.
Lacto-ovo-vegetarians eat both dairy products and eggs.
Pesco-vegetarians eat fish, dairy products, and eggs.
Some people who are in the semi-vegetarian category prefer to call themselves "non-red meat eaters"
I would think it was because fish is not a meat or a poltry but Im not all that sure about that.
They dont
If they eat fish, they are not Vegetarians, they just choose not to eat meat.
Strict vegetarians do not eat fish, poultry or red meat. There are other sub-categories of vegetarianism which offer varieties on this definition. The "vegetarians" who eat fish are pesco-vegetarians. A lot of pesco-vegetarians eat fish simply for the protein content. However, this is not strict vegetarianism as fish are still living, breathing creatures.
A true vegetarian doesn't est fish or meat at all
