What is in chocolate that makes it non vegetarian?!

Question:

What is in chocolate that makes it non vegetarian?

Answers:
milk

caffiene

milk chocolate has milk which is an animal product. Some vegetarians will consume milk but your hard core vegans will not.

cockroach

It's not that it's not vegetarian, it's that it's not VEGAN. The difference between vegetarian and vegan is that vegetarians will often eat eggs, milks, cheeses, etc. Vegans will not consume anything that has come from an animal, at all. Since chocolate is a dairy product and contains milk, it is not VEGAN.

Only MILK chocolate would be non-vegan. Regular chocolate should be ok.

dairy products carob is a good substitute for vegatarians

Some vegetarians don't consume milk or other dairy products, and milk is an ingredient in chocolate.

i heardd it was the cocroaches that get crushed with the cocoa bean.
chocolate can deplete vitamin b in the body
chocolate can make lumps in the breast, i had to stop eating it to make mine disappear
Carob is healthy

Milk Chocolate is not VEGAN as it has milk in it. Chocolate itself is a plant. It's what is added to make it candy, etc that changes it. Look at tha labels. If as a Veggie you do dairy you can do Milk Chocolate.. if not stick with the Dark Chocolate(read label)

Actually, chocolate is vegetarian, but not vegan. Vegetarians will consume eggs, milk, cheese, any dairy products but not meat. Vegans will not consume any animal products, many will not use honey since it is made by bees.

Vegetarians will eat milk chocolate. Vegans cannot as some(most) chocolate contains milk or butterfat or whey - derived from milk.
Vegetarians also have to watch out because some whey is derived from animals - a by-product of the meat industry.
Really it is not safe to eat chocolate that has whey in it's ingredient list unless the product states "vegetarian whey powder" or has 'suitable for vegetarians' on it.

Chocolate is vegetarian as far as I know. Maybe not vegan...

if you are vegan be careful that even if you get dark chocolate which should have not milk in it it could contain butter fat which is a cheap replacement for cocoa butter which comes from the coccoa plant better quality chocolates don't contain butter fat. also sunspire chocolate is vegan and sweetened with unprocessed sugar, some processed sugars are filtered with bone char to make them pretty white, not all sugar companies do this but Dominos does any natural sugar doesn't.

what makes it non VEGAN, and it's milk you moron

Milk chocolate is non-vegan and a lot of dark chocolate contains a tiny bit of milk. Green and black's dark chocolate is suitable for vegans and so are their 'Maya Gold' bars. They are spicy orangey choccie bars!! mmmm!!

Milk fat. Some brands of chocolate chips are vegan.
