Do any vegans declaw their cats?!
Do any vegans declaw their cats?
I'm just wondering, because declawing them involves cutting off the tips of their toes!
That seems pretty damn cruel to me....more so than raising meat for food, and killing them so quick they never know it!

I get my pork & beef from a farmer I know....so yes, it is a humane life & death. And yes, I realize that is rare.
But dammmm, all those high on the horse vegans sure are ignoring THIS question!

i agree that sadly some do. and to me that seems hypocritical.
it seems like an awful thing to do. i would never think of doing it to my cats sure sometimes they scratch me, or claw at passers by, but whatever they're cats, i just bought a scratching post so they scratch at that and it keeps them worn down, and i sprayed the couch leg with an organic no scratch stuff that's bacisly just clove and garlic, so they don't destroy my furniture, but I'd never do it.
well my friends a vegetarian and she declawed her cat cuz they can rly hurt u if u dont declaw them...so vegans prolly do too unless they like getting beat up by a cat
You should cut their nails however, it can be unhealthy if their nail get long.
Sadly, I would suspect vegans de-claw there cats just like other folks do.
De-clawing is cruel and inhumane, never mind psychologically damaging. My vet won't do it.
If the cat isn't given something to sharpen it's nails on (and the cat must do this to remove the old nail husks) then the cat needs to have it's nails clipped periodically, making sure to use cat clippers and make sure to cut ABOVE the "quick" (the live part of the nail)
Don't get a cat if your furniture is more important than the 1st joint of Kitty's toes.
What?do you feel bad for eating meat so you felt the need to ask that.Animals in factory farms go through way worse than that.Little chicks get their beaks cut off, they aren't givin sedatives, they don't see the light of day, they are confined to a tiny chain, everything is mechanized, they are given hormones and fattened so much they can't support their own weight, they are taken from their mothers at birth, they can't turn around because their cages are so small, the list goes on and on.to compare that to a cat getting it's nails cut off is stupid.i am not mad i'm trying to prove a point to you to open up your eyes, really, think about it,which is less cruel. And no,i don't declaw my cat.
As a vegan, i believe it is wrong to have a cat declawed. Cats can be trained not to scratch furniture if they are given a scratching post. If their nails get too long they can be periodically trimmed with special clippers. If done correctly trimming the nails shouldn't hurt the cat.
As for your comment about animals being killed so quick that they don't know what is happening, you are misinformed. I grew up on a farm and can honestly say that animals, especially chickens are often aware of what is about to happen and are scared.
In modern slaughterhouses, the animal is not always completely stunned and is sometimes cut and skinned while still awake and aware of what is going on.
