Should I take supplements?!
Should I take supplements?
I haven't had meat in one week, and am going vegetarian! HOORAY! I decided that it isn't right to eat animals, and that I don't like all the hormones that are being pumped into them, and the way the are treated, and are killed. Plus I have two dogs, and I understand they raise dogs in korea to eat them, and I wouldn't want that fate for my dogs, so I decided that lcows, chicken pigs, etc, shouldn't be treated any different! But, I have heard that you should take supplements and vitamins. What kind of vitamins and supplements should i take? I found a bunch of great recipes, and i am going to start making them this week! So excited. Plus also, is it normal to be feeling kind of emotional, bc i understand all that meat had hormones pumped in it, so now that i am not eating it, am i feeling withdrawl symptoms from the hormones and drugs they pump in the animals?
Answers:
You will need vitamins especially with iron supplements.

No, you should eat a steak.
I don't agree with your take on the meat eating issue, but as far as a health prospective...
You're not feeling "hormone" withdrawal.... you feeling protein and amino acid withdrawal. You don't necessarily need to supplement your diet with supplements BUT..... if you're going to give up meat, you better make up for it with daily intake of Beans, nuts, fish, etc.
Otherwise, see a doctor or nutritionist for a supplement regimen.
your daily vitamin. do to your doctor and ask for a blood work to see what vitamina and/or minerals you have a deficiancy in to body. thats what i did.
ive been vegan for almost 4 years now, and im proud of you for amking the choice to take steptowards the right direction. feel free to email me for furthur info
Your thinking on animals is something I feel also. I'm about as tender-hearted as they come when it comes to animals.
but . . .
If it weren't for ranching, chickens and lambs wouldn't be around anymore. They'd be as extinct as the dodo bird from predators.
We don't eat meat much, but I've heard it said that beef contains every amino acid you need.
So why bother with supplements if ol' Bessie's got what it takes?
CONGRATULATIONS! on becoming a vegetarian for all the good reasons. I've been a vegetarian for 4 years now and have never had to take supplements. Make sure you eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, grains and nuts. If you can go all organic.
*Home made meals are the best for vitamin consumption.
