Is there any difference between baking powder, baking soda and soda bicarb?!

Is there any difference between baking powder, baking soda and soda bicarb?


Answers:
Of course there is a difference. Well kind of anyway. Soda bicarb and baking soda are the same thing.

In some products that are leavened baking powder is used instead of yeast, as baking powder is more stable and quicker. What it does is once wetted and heated (double action) it gives off gases and leaven the product- think bisquits.

Baking soda quite often is in baking powder, but baking powder also contains cream of tarter and other ingerients.

Of course the uses of baking soda are way to long to list here. The uses of baking powder and baking soda are not the same and are not interchangable.

I don't know about soda bicarb, though.

Ok, there's definitely a difference between baking powder and baking soda. Not sure exactly what it is, but they're different, and you can't really substitute one for the other. I THINK that baking soda is the same as bicarbonate of soda..

Baking powder has Sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar(may have some other suitable acid crysteles). When water is added the Cabondioxide is released.

Sodabicarbonate is pain Sodium bicabonet. The box of which I have has Baking soda written(printed) on it. If I were to add it to water it will disolve in the water but it will not release any cabondioxide gas.

But if I had some acid in the water it will release carbondioxide.

For food preparation when you need the preparation to rise you can add Vinegar or lime juice or citric acid crystales or any addible(consumable) acid (eg in bread dough).

But it is most covinient to use baking powder.

there may be difference but they all function in the same way

I'm not sure ,but i recommend you only cook with organic products,because the others have aluminum in them and will destroy your body,because of the toxic chemicals.please organic only..

Baking soda is Bicabinate of soda
Baking powder is soda and alum

They are not interchangable if the recipe calls for one, only use that one.
