Which is a cheaper Diet? Vegetarian or Protein Rich?!

Question:

Which is a cheaper Diet? Vegetarian or Protein Rich?

And I mean good Vegetarian like organic stuff, good foods. Not "I just eat frenchfries for lunch" or any of the other poser crap. Good quality healthy Vegetarian meals.
Cost wise how do they compare to a protein rich diet with alot of meats, cheeses, eggs and fiberous veggies?

Answers:
It depends on places. In some villages meats may be quite cheap, while in villages along riverbanks and seashores fish are really cheap. Otherwise, towns & cities have chicken meat cheaper than 'organic' veg. items. Also, if you select a season-dependent item like 'organic' green peas, they will be very costly at some time of the year (far higher than chicken) Generally, better fish like white pomfret and big river shrimp cost terribly high (up to Rs. 300-500 a kilo). And we all know that ordinary veg. items are comparitively very cheap (usually between Rs. 10 to 80 a kilo in Baroda.)

Source(s):
1. Baroda Veg. Markets 2. Local chicken shops 3. Local mutton shops. 4. Nearby places like Vasad, Sindhrot, Dabka for fish 5. Other near places like Nimeta, Vasad, for mutton 6. Veg. growing places like Padra, Nadiad, Halol .

veggie

It could be close. Meat production is heavily funded by federal funding to keep the prices low. Organic produce growers have to shoulder risks themselves.
If you eat vegetarian/organic and have beans and home made wheat gluten as your protein (not pricey veggie burgers) you will come out ahead in the veggie diet. Whole grains will make you feel fuller, more satisfied. It will take a bit of cooking to do the veg diet unless you have canned lentil soup and instant brown rice on hand.

There are many protein rich items available in a vegetarian diet so I don't know how to answer this.

Lots of meats, cheeses and eggs are unhealthy choices.

VEGGIE

honestly it really depends on what the person is eating and buying.
For example if you want to eat organic, you should be buying organic with meat, or without.
If you ate like crap as a meat eater, chances are you'll eat like crap as a vegetarian as well. That is just the way things work.
I would say hands down Organic Vegetables and grains are cheaper then buying smaller amounts of Organic Vegetables, grains and large amounts of free range eggs, and organic fed cow and chicken and organic milk.
If you are eating like crap still as a vegetarian, vs eating crap as a meat eater, it's still hands down cheaper!
unless you are living off of top ramen, then it comes out in the wash. :)
but comparing a organic vegetarian diet to a non organic meat eating diet is like apples to oranges.

hi, i'm vegan and i eat super healthy and i am the cheapest person i know for buying food. i buy everything in season when the sales come on and freeze for the rest of the year. i also dehydrate reduced apples ect and eat them dried. i presoak my own beans ect.. a little work and i'm looking less than a couple bucks a day!

well... A diet is a lifetime thing, not just a fad. As humans, we are naturally omnivorous, so we require nutrients from meats, dairy, grains, and vegetables. If you eat a decent mix of both, it shouldn't be extremely expensive. However, if you have ethical questions about eating animals and you are willing to visit a dietician to talk about supplementing your diet with nutrients lost from not eating meat, do your homework and then switch to vegetarian.

If you look on Food as Medicine..which is cheaper?
Total Health comes from eating well. Good Quality food is the main source of health along with clean water & exercise.

It's about equal currently if strictly talking about food, assuming your not buying a bunch of processed crap like you said. However that may be changing. Check this out: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/c...

^ best news in years. bye bye cheap meat.
